  • Patent number: 6257517
Abstract: A welding wire feeding system feeds welding wire from a barrel to a welding gun. The system includes a feed mechanism for drawing welding wire from the barrel and advancing the welding wire toward the welding gun. A free-wheeling wheel is disposed between the barrel and the feed mechanism and is freely rotatable about an axis. The welding wire is wound around the wheel, whereby a curvature is imparted to an otherwise-straight welding wire. Also, any twists generated in the welding wire at the welding gun will be stopped at the wheel before reaching and fouling the barrel.

  • Patent number: 6214908
Abstract: A composition comprising a binder and a residue wherein the residue comprises a blend of polypropylene, styrene butadiene rubber and calcium carbonate. The residue is a novel material derived as a coproduct from the medium-pressure depolymerization of nylon 6 carpet. The compositions are useful as road asphalt, asphalt roof membranes, molding compounds, and plastic lumber such as palisades and spacers.

  • Patent number: 6080906
Abstract: A chemical munitions destruction system subjects the chemical agent and energetic materials to a series of treatment processes until a preselected level of destruction is achieved. The treatment processes include chemical neutralization and processing of both the chemical and energetic agents, biological treatment of the aqueous waste streams and catalytic oxidation of the air exhaust streams. In certain cases, the energetic agent and/or the propellant components of the munitions are converted to valuable chemicals by means of catalytic hydrotreating.

  • Patent number: 6029205
Abstract: A system and method for interprocess communication between concurrently executing, cooperating sequential processes in a digital computer system uses a shared memory queue as a mechanism for message passing and process synchronization. Data to be transferred from a sending process to a receiving process is stored in a queue entry which is visible in the virtual address space of the first process. The queue entry is added to a queue by the sending process directing the processor to execute an enqueue instruction. The receiving process removes the queue entry from the queue by directing the processor to execute a dequeue instruction. The receiving process then has direct access and visibility to the contents of the queue entry without having to copy the data into its virtual address space. Instead of sending data in a queue entry, a sending process may send an event indicator and no data.

  • Patent number: 5691830
Abstract: A holographic optical system includes volume hologram configurations providing a waveplate for, e.g. an optical storage device, and an aliasing suppression filter. The waveplate has diffraction characteristics adapted to impart a propagation delay for selected polarization directions. By controlling the propagation delay and the angle of an incident light beam, an output beam having altered polarization characteristics can be produced. Quarter waveplates for reflective optical storage systems and half waveplates for magneto-optical storage systems are disclosed. The holographic aliasing suppression filter divides an input optical beam into spatially separated components and may be configured to be polarization insensitive or color selective.
