  • Patent number: 4113452
Abstract: A gas/liquid separator includes a housing and a rotatable degassing chamber in the housing. Liquid containing gas is fed into the housing and through an annular liquid inlet conduit which opens into the chamber. Degasified liquid is discharged from the rotating chamber through one or more discharge passages in the circumferential wall of the chamber due to centrifugal force on the liquid in the rotating chamber. An upstream portion of each discharge passage is farther radially from the chamber axis of rotation than is the exit port of the passage. This forms a column of liquid in each discharge passage which, in turn, provides a gas seal between the inside and the outside of the chamber to prevent separated gas from accompanying the liquid out of the chamber. In essence, the discharge passage incorporates a liquid sealed trap.

  • Patent number: 4044943
Abstract: A constant flow rate input fluid of mixed gas, oil, water and suspended solids separates into its phases by centrifuging in a chamber of a multiple phase separator. Clean oil draws off through a mouth of a pitot tube tap which extends into the chamber. Solids leave the chamber through radially perimetric orifices. Water leaves the chamber through a radial passage opening into the chamber radially inward of the orifices and outward of the mouth of the pitot tube. Gas leaves the chamber through an annular tap radially inside the mouth of the pitot tube. An overflow oil stream leaves through this annulus and keeps separate from the gas by gravity. The quantity of water in the chamber determines the radial positions of the lighter constituents of oil and gas so that each tap for these phases draws only the proper phase.

  • Patent number: 4036427
Abstract: A combination pitot pump and centrifugal separator for pumping contaminated fluids and for separating contaminants from the pumped fluid includes a rotatable hollow casing. Contaminated fluid is delivered to the interior of the casing and a pumped fluid discharge duct is provided coaxially from the casing. A stationary pitot tube is supported within the casing for collecting, by a ram effect, cleaned fluid from the interior of the casing at a selected location between the casing axis and its outer periphery, and for converting the velocity head of the collected fluid to pressure in the course of supplying the collected fluid to the discharge duct. A plurality of orifices are formed through the outer periphery of the casing for discharging from the casing contaminant matter in fluid introduced into the casing and separated centrifugally therefrom within the casing.
