    Abstract: A buffer stores only packets in one or more high-priority traffic flows in a first portion. The size of the first portion is determined based on an estimated maximum volume of traffic in the at least one high-priority traffic flow. The buffer stores packets in either the one or more high-priority traffic flows or one or more low-priority traffic flows in a second portion. The buffer stores only packets in the one or more low-priority traffic flows in a third portion. A processor marks the packets in the first portion and the second portion with a high-priority color prior to transmission of the packets. The processor marks the packets in the third portion with a low-priority color prior to transmission of the packets.

    Abstract: A telecommunication system in which a plurality of terminals communicate with a base station or a connection station and a management unit determines the allocation of resources for calls from each terminal to the connection station. At least some of the terminals include a plurality of connections. Calls are effected by means of cells or packets. The allocation of resources is determined cell by cell or packet by packet in each connection. The management unit allocates communication resources to each terminal according to the total number of cells or packets waiting in each terminal and a weighting coefficient allocated to each terminal. The allocation of resources by the management unit is independent of the number of connections of each terminal. Each terminal allocates resources to each connection according to the overall resources allocated to it by the management unit and a weighting coefficient allocated to each connection of the terminal.

    Abstract: In order to accept a new call for setting up in a UMTS network node, the method consists in particular in: calculating for the new call an equivalent passband as a function of: the quality of service requested for the new call; and the quality of service attributes of the UMTS medium corresponding to the call; then comparing the sum of the equivalent passband for the new call plus the equivalent passbands of all of the calls already set up in the UMTS network node with a predetermined maximum value; and accepting the new call with guaranteed requested quality of service only if the sum is less than or equal to said predetermined maximum value.
