Publication number: 20170241975Abstract: A test strip for determining the concentration of a component in a liquid composition is disclosed. The test strip comprises a carrier sheet coated with a layer of an adsorbent, and a chemical dye deposited on the test strip near but spaced apart from a bottom edge of the test strip. In some embodiments, the test strip is a thin-layer chromatography (TLC) plate, and the retention factor of the chemical dye varies according to the concentration of the component in the liquid composition. A user can determine the concentration of the component based on the migration distance of the chemical dye on the test strip in a chromatography process. The test strip can be used to perform a fast and visual test to determine the ethanol content in a fuel sample.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2017Publication date: August 24, 2017Inventors: Danielle T. Patent number: 9618189Abstract: A luminaire can comprise an optic that extends lengthwise within a linear cavity of a frame of the luminaire. The optic can comprise a diffuser, such as a sheet of diffusing acrylic material, for example. The optic can have edges located at opposing ends of the linear cavity. The luminaire can comprise a cover for each of the two ends of the linear cavity. The covers can cover the edges of the optic, so that at each cavity end, there is an overlap between the optic and the cover. The overlap can provide a gap that compensates for thermal expansion and contraction of the optic relative to the frame, which may have a metal composition. One or more magnets can removably attach the cover to the frame of the luminaire.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2015Date of Patent: April 11, 2017Assignee: Cooper Technologies CompanyInventors: Jason Medric Eubanks, Travis William Francis Boyle, Brett Allan Guhde

Patent number: 9574751Abstract: A luminaire can comprise a frame that provides a cavity for emitting illumination towards a space to be illuminated. A light source, such as a row of light emitting diodes, can emit light into the cavity. The cavity can extend lengthwise between two end caps of the frame that are located at opposing ends of the luminaire. The frame can further comprise two bridges that are located adjacent the end caps, one at each end of the frame. Two rails that extend on opposing sides of the cavity can connect the two bridges to one another. A system of grooves and protrusions can interlock the rails to the bridges. A system of standardized interchangeable components that facilitates rapid manufacture of custom luminaires can comprise the bridges, the rails, and the end caps.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2015Date of Patent: February 21, 2017Assignee: Cooper Technologies CompanyInventors: Jason Medric Eubanks, Travis William Francis Boyle, Brett Allan Guhde

Patent number: 8764220Abstract: A linear light emitting diode (“LED”) light fixture includes LED modules that interface with one another to provide a substantially continuous array of LED's. This continuous array allows for substantially uniform light output from the LED light fixture. The LED modules can interface with one another via one or more connectors, which allow two or more LED modules to be electrically and mechanically coupled together. The connectors may be disposed beneath the LED's so that the connectors are not visible when the LED modules are coupled together. The connectors may be disposed along opposite ends of the modules to allow for end-to-end configurations of the modules and/or along side ends of the modules to allow for angled or curved configurations of the modules. The LED modules can be powered via one or more wires, magnets, or clips, which are coupled to a power source.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2011Date of Patent: July 1, 2014Assignee: Cooper Technologies CompanyInventors: Chun Wah Chan, Anthony James Carney, Jerold Alan Tickner, Peter J Menard, Christopher Ladewig, Valerica Grigore, Bradley Stephen Garrett, Travis William Francis Boyle

Patent number: 7057628Abstract: The invention provides a method to automatically create high quality computer-based drawings by virtually eliminating text and graphics overwrites. This has broad practical application to a class of problems where drawings are created or updated from a non-graphic database. This is achieved through the representation of graphics as a set of bitmap images. As graphic elements are placed onto a drawing plane they contribute to the composition of a drawing's ‘committed’ bitmap. The proposed addition of new graphic elements onto the drawing plane is represented by a second ‘tentative’ bitmap. The white space algorithm uses efficient logical AND and logical OR bit manipulations to track and compare these bitmap images and determine if white space is available for placement of the proposed new graphic elements. When acceptable space is located the proposed graphics are simultaneously added to the drawing plane and inserted into the drawing's ‘committed’ bitmap.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2003Date of Patent: June 6, 2006Inventors: Anthony Bruce Crawford, Edward Francis Boyle
