  • Patent number: 9271145
Abstract: A system for controlling, monitoring, and recording of wireless telecommunications services associated with penal institutions is provided comprising a portable electronic device and application executing on the device that present a listing of available call destinations based on receiving a first instruction from a first authorized party possessing the device. The application receives a second instruction comprising a choice of a first call destination from the listing. The application transmits a third instruction requesting connection with the destination and joins a second authorized party associated with the first call destination in a first voice session. The application joins the first authorized party to the first session. The application further joins the first party to a second voice session initiated by the second party based on determining that the second party initiated the second session from the first destination.

  • Patent number: 8478234
Abstract: A system for controlling, monitoring, and recording of telecommunications services associated with penal institutions is provided. The system comprises processor, memory, and application that receive a first transmission from a telephone number, the first transmission requesting a voice communication session with a portable electronic device associated with a penal institution. The system analyzes a first file containing a listing of at least one telephone number authorized to originate communication with the device, analyzes a second file describing authorized days and time periods for the device to engage in communication originated by the telephone number, and determines, based on the analysis of the first and second files, that the device is authorized to engage in the requested communication.

  • Publication number: 20060277987
Abstract: A method and apparatus for assessing tire performance by generating accurate, timely tire-to-surface slippage information under any operational/environmental conditions and on any road and/or off-road surface without requiring instrumentation of the roadway. The approach is capable of storing generated tire-to-surface slippage information for later retrieval and analysis and/or capable of supporting dynamic, real-time collection and dissemination of generated data. One exemplary embodiment generates and disseminates tire-to-surface slippage information in real-time that is compatible with and may be formatted for use by any consumer vehicle control system as well as external test and analysis equipment.

  • Publication number: 20050248146
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided that utilize a fluid to affect accumulations of water on a road surface in a path of a vehicle. The fluid can be water or an air-water mixture in the environment of the vehicle. A tire is used to gather the fluid. A structure, such as a fender, is disposed adjacent to the tire to focus the fluid that has been gathered by the tire into a spray. The spray is projected ahead of the tire to reduce the depth of, or substantially dissipate, the accumulations of water.

  • Patent number: 6211676
Abstract: An open electromagnet including a pair of field coils which respectively comprise juxtaposed poles of the electromagnet between which an imaging volume of substantially homogeneous magnetic field is defined, toroidal shielding coil means arranged on a locus which forms a loop, so that when energized, the said shielding coil means produces a controlling magnetic field which configures a magnetic flux return path for the field coils so that the magnetic flux return path describes the said loop, and a support structure which serves rigidly to support the shielding coil means and the field coils.

  • Patent number: 5982260
Abstract: An open electromagnet for use in MRI apparatus includes a pair of field coils which respectively comprise juxtaposed poles between which an imaging volume of substantially homogeneous magnetic field is defined. A support structure, which serves rigidly to support the field coils in spaced apart relationship, includes two steel plates between which the field coils are positioned. The relative position of the field coils and the plates is selected such that forces of magnetic attraction between the field coils are at least partly counter-balanced by forces of attraction between the plates and the field coils. In this manner, the force on the field coils and their associated support structure due to the forces of attraction between the poles is significantly reduced or nullified.
