  • Publication number: 20150152653
Abstract: A platform comprises a frame supporting an outer annular deck and an inner annular deck. The inner annular deck comprises a plurality of deck members, each deck member comprising a deck panel mounted to a radial support member. Each support member is slidable between a first state in which the deck member extends towards the centre of said platform and a second state in which the deck member is retracted towards the periphery of said platform. The deck panels overlap each other to provide a continuous annular deck portion of varying inner diameter as the support members are displaced when moving between the first state and the second state.

  • Patent number: 8804662
Abstract: For handover between wireless telecommunications networks of different technology types, an air interface is set up between a first node 4 included in a network of a first technology type and a second node 10 included in a network of a second different technology type. Signaling messaging, in accordance with the second technology type, is related to handover of a mobile terminal from the network of the first technology type to the network of the second technology type. The signaling messaging is encapsulated in a container for transmission over the signaling interface. An identifier is associated with the container to indicate that it encapsulates the signaling messaging. When the identifier is detected at the first node, the container is sent over the interface to the second node. In one method in accordance with the invention, the first technology type is WiMAX and the identifier is a special service flow identifier. This may be detected at an Access Services Network Gateway (ASN GW), for example.

  • Publication number: 20120155427
Abstract: A call is established at a first network utilizing a first radio technology. The context for the call is locked at the first network. The call is handed over to a second network utilizing a second radio technology. The context is maintained at the first network. • Patent number: 7978683
Abstract: The method provides for a first network controller, operating according to a first radio technology, to form and send a relay message to a second network controller, operating according to a different, second radio technology. The relay message includes an embedded message for the second network controller. The embedded message may be a transition message requesting transition of a packet switched call for a mobile station handled by the first network controller to a call for the mobile station handled by the second network controller. The method further provides selection of another wireless element for service at a wireless unit, using a current wireless element. A wireless unit receives a message identifying at least one other wireless element, available to the wireless unit and to which a wireless element currently in communication with the wireless unit is also in communication with and the wireless unit selects another wireless element for possible future service based on the message.

  • Publication number: 20080305796
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for performing inter-technology handovers of a communication unit between a first Radio Access Network (RAN) and a second RAN. The communication unit includes a single transceiver. An inter-RAN tunnel is established between the first RAN and the second RAN. When the communication unit determines that it may be moving out of the service area of the first RAN, the communication unit sends a handover request message to the first RAN. The handover request message includes a request for a second RAN that the communication unit can communicate with. The communication unit is then able to perform some handover communication with the second RAN prior to actually handing off to the second RAN, by utilizing the inter-RAN tunnel between the first RAN and the second RAN.

  • Publication number: 20080181205
Abstract: A method and apparatus is described for coordinating the movement of communication traffic, e.g., a voice call, from a packet switched (PS) domain to a circuit switched (CS) domain in the case that the terminal device cannot communicate with the PS and CS radio technologies simultaneously. Such movement involves the parallel activities of moving the bearer traffic routing from the PS domain to the CS domain, and of moving the radio connection from the PS radio access network to the CS radio access network. An adjustable timer is used to delay either the movement of the terminal device from the PS radio technology to the CS radio technology, or to delay the movement of bearer traffic from the PS domain to the CS domain in order to minimize the gap in bearer traffic delivery to and from the terminal device.

  • Publication number: 20080056236
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for signaling between an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and a multi-mode terminal using concise primitives to support the use of IMS-based services while the multi-mode terminal is attached to either the packet switched (PS) domain or to the circuit switched (CS) domain, or moves between these domains. The present invention enables the maintenance of services state in only the IMS and in the multi-mode terminal, thus avoiding the creation or transfer of services state information as the multi-mode terminal moves between the PS and CS domains.

  • Patent number: 7062265
Abstract: An architecture to support service features for wireless calls in a wireless telecommunication system is disclosed. Service feature administration for a wireless terminal is provided by a packet data feature server in a home network that is connected to a packet data network. During call setup on behalf of the wireless terminal, the feature server is accessed via the packet data network to manage service features that are specific to the wireless terminal.

  • Patent number: 6977921
Abstract: Delivery of short audio communications to remote end user devices uses discrete message-oriented service messages for delivery of the audio messages. Audio information is captured, encoded by means of audio compression technology, and stored at a message center. Alternatively, the audio information may be stored in an uncompressed format and compressed immediately before delivery. The compressed audio information is transmitted by means of Short Message Service or another discrete message-oriented service to the end user device, where it is decompressed and played to the recipient. Message delivery can be accomplished in parallel with some other ongoing activity at the end user device. The major fields in a Short Message Service message used to carry encoded audio information are a Type of Data field, including information on the type of translator needed to decompress the message field, a Short Message Identifier, a Length field, and the coded audio information.
