  • Patent number: 9579476
Abstract: An introducer 40 for guiding an endotracheal tube into a patient's trachea and method for use is provided. The introducer used independently of the endotracheal tube is a malleable elongated tubular body 42 having a proximal end 44 and a distal end 46 and includes an extendible malleable guide member 50 disposed in the bore 48 of the tubular body. Ports 52 are provided in the wall of the tubular body at a point where an operator will normally support the introducer 40 during intubation for contact of the guide member 50 with a finger or fingers of the hand supporting the introducer so that the guide member 50 can be extended without the operator changing the position of the supporting hand while leaving the other hand free for use of a viewing device.

  • Publication number: 20150258295
Abstract: An introducer is disclosed and used for the introduction of an airway tube into the trachea of a patient, the introducer comprising an elongated flexible tubular body defining a proximal end and proximal end portion and a distal end and distal end portion, the body having an outside dimension selected for receiving the body in the bore of an airway tube, an elongated flexible guide member defining a distal portion terminating in a distal tip and a proximal end and a proximal section disposed in the bore of the tubular body.

  • Patent number: 6726659
Abstract: An improved catheter assembly featuring a hollow introducer needle, a hollow, flexible dilator containing at least one fenestration through a sidewall thereof, the dilator being slidably disposed over the needle, and a sheath slidably disposed over the dilator. A passageway is formed in the assembly to either show a rapid blood flashback along a lengthwise portion of the assembly or to conduct blood or other biological liquid from the patient to a sideport on the sheath for connection to blood pressure monitoring equipment, infusion/blood sampling equipment, or both, without the necessity of altering connections on or with the assembly after insertion of the needle into the patient.

  • Patent number: 5704914
Abstract: A catheter assembly is disclosed which includes a flexible catheter, a hub attached to the catheter which defines a lumen and an adjoining flash back chamber which communicate with the catheter, and a flexible resilient diaphragm attached to the hub through which a hypodermic needle such as a catheter introducer needle can be passed. The diaphragm prevents a liquid, such as blood, which has been introduced into the hub lumen from flowing past the diaphragm and beyond the hub when the diaphragm is unpenetrated. A hollow tubular body may also be included to which a cannulated catheter needle can be either stationarily or movably attached. The body is removably attached to the hub behind the diaphragm. If movably attached to the body, the needle has a retracted position fully recessed within the body for safe storage and an advanced operative position extending through the diaphragm, hub and catheter.
