    Abstract: The present invention relates to a recombinant non-yeast DNA, which encodes a protein of interest, wherein an unmodified DNA corresponding to the recombinant non-yeast DNA contains a region having a high content of codons that are poorly suited to yeasts, wherein a number of the codons that are poorly suited to yeasts are replaced in said region of the recombinant non-yeast DNA with synonymous codons coding for the same amino acid that are well-suited to yeasts, and wherein the number of replaced codons is sufficient to permit expression in yeasts. The present invention also relates to DNA sequences which originate from dicotyledonous or monocotyledonous plants, and in particular plants of the graminae family which are selected from among wheat, barley, oats, rice, maize, sorghum and cane sugar, as well as to vectors and transformed yeasts which contain the DNA sequences of the invention.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to the gene CYP76B1 of a cytochrome P450 which has been isolated from Helianthus tuberosus tuber. The expression of this gene in yeast has shown that it encoded an enzyme very actively catalysing the O-dealkylation of various exogenous molecules with a high efficiency, such as phenylureas. The expression of CYP76B1 is strongly induced in plants brought into contact with certain exogenous metals or organic compounds. This induction may be exploited for the detection of environmental pollutants. CYP76B1 can be also used to alter the resistance of plants sensitive to this family of herbicides and for soil and groundwater bioremedation.

The present invention relates, more specifically, to DNA sequences which originate from dicotyledonous or monocotyledonous plants, in particular plants of the graminae family which are selected, in particular, from among wheat, barley, oats, rice, maize, sorghum and cane sugar. The present invention also relates to transformed yeasts which contain a DNA sequence according to the invention.
