  • Patent number: 6904296
Abstract: A balanced antenna is provided for a mobile telephone which couples to the outputs from a balanced power amplifier stage without needing connection through a lossy conversion circuit. The balanced antenna comprises two radiating elements positioned opposite one another with the feed points positioned so that the radiating fields from the two elements superpose. A floating ground is also provided which reduces the effects of components located on the PCB under the antenna.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 9, 2001
Date of Patent: June 7, 2005
    Assignee: Nokia Mobile Phones Limited
Inventors: Francis Geeraert, Hans Erik Gram
  • Patent number: 6504507
Abstract: A patch antenna is provided with two feed points, one on either side of a cut-out. Both feed points are connected to the ports on a first side of a matrix switch, one directly and one via a capacitor. An antenna feed is connected to one of the ports on a second side of the matrix switch, while the other is earthed. In use, a controller operates the switch so that the antenna feed is connected one or other of the feed points, each giving rise to a different resonant frequency and so providing a way of tuning the antenna for small frequency shifts.

  • Patent number: 6307512
Abstract: An antenna device for a handportable phone having a first conducting layer acting as resonator plane, a second conducting layer arranged substantially in parallel with the first conducting layer and acting as ground plane for the antenna device, and feeding means connected to said first and the second conducting layer for feeding an RF signal to the antenna device. The first conducting layer is provided as a radiating pattern having a common frequency part coherent with two further parts where said common frequency part in combination with said two further parts defines a first radiating element and a second radiating element, respectively. Capacitive couplings between the first and the second conducting areas adjacent to the crossing areas between said common frequency part and the respective one of said two further parts.

  • Patent number: 6271794
Abstract: An antenna device has a first metallic layer acting as resonator plane and defining at least two radiating elements separated by a first slit, and a second metallic layer arranged substantially in parallel with the first metallic layer and acting as ground plane for the antenna device. Feeding means are connected to said first and the second metallic layer for feeding an RF signal to the antenna device, said feeding means includes a feeding point in the first metallic layer. The first metallic layer is provided with a second slit extending from said first slit with the feeding point placed on a metallized tongue between the first and the second slit, whereby surface currents have to pass around the tips of the slits towards the radiating elements.
