  • Patent number: 4626377
Abstract: A synergistic, aqueous, free flowing defoaming composition comprising as the primary component an aqueous hydrophobic dispersion of an alcohol of 14-28 carbon atoms, a fatty acid of 14-28 carbon atoms, a soap of a fatty acid of 14-28 carbon atoms and a nonionic or anionic surfactant, and as a secondary component a dispersion of a hydrophobic solid in a water insoluble liquid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 10, 1984
Date of Patent: December 2, 1986
    Assignee: Drew Chemical Corporation
Inventors: Ronald W. Kavchok, Francis J. Boylan, deceased

  • Patent number: 4377493
Abstract: A defoamer comprised of silica having hydrophobic surfaces dispersed in a water insoluble hydrophobic organic liquid, wherein the silica has a surface area of no greater than 0.1 m.sup.2 /g and the hydrophobic silica comprises in excess of 25 wt. percent of the composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 26, 1981
Date of Patent: March 22, 1983
    Assignee: Drew Chemical Corporation
Inventors: Francis J. Boylan, Clemmon Porter, Olga D. Bruno
  • Patent number: 4340500
Abstract: A free flowing aqueous defoamer comprised of alcohol, a fatty acid, a soap of a fatty acid and an anionic and/or non-ionic surfactant which prevents formation of a gelled mass of the solids and provides a free flowing dispersion of the solids in the water, with the solids contents being at least 5%, preferably at least 20%, all by weight. In a preferred embodiment, the composition includes a water soluble metal salt to render the surfaces of the solids hydrophobic. The defoamer has particular applicability for defoaming paper machine stock.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 2, 1981
Date of Patent: July 20, 1982
    Assignee: Drew Chemical Corporation
    Inventor: Francis J. Boylan
  • Patent number: 4303549
Abstract: A free flowing aqueous defoamer comprised of a solid alcohol, a solid fatty acid, a soap of a solid fatty acid and an anionic and/or non-ionic surfactant which prevents formation of a gelled mass of the solids and provides a free flowing dispersion of the solids in the water, with the solids contents being at least 5%, preferably at least 20%, all by weight, and with such solids having been treated to provide hydrophobic surfaces. A water soluble salt of a metal having a valence of greater than 1, such as aluminum, iron, magnesium, or calcium may be added to the composition to provide hydrophobic particle surfaces.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 1980
Date of Patent: December 1, 1981
    Assignee: Drew Chemical Corporation
    Inventor: Francis J. Boylan
