Publication number: 20030056384Abstract: An improved glove sizing system is provided which is defined by a utilization of a two-dimensional dimension of a human hand in a glove size designation (64). The said glove size designation applies to a standard glove size and a plurality of the said standard glove sizes represent a glove system (66) suitable for large-scale production. The said glove size designation (64) facilitates a quantified and logical process for a user to select a proper glove size for best-fit and tactility. Additionally, the glove sizing system correlates to dimensions measured easily with a common ruler or scale.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2001Publication date: March 27, 2003Inventor: Francis J. Masley

Publication number: 20020112272Abstract: The present invention is an improved glove having a fit enhancing, moisture absorbent component attached to the interior of the gauntlet of the glove on at least a portion thereof. The fit-enhancing, moisture absorbent component, or gauntlet insert, provides a closer fit of the glove around the wearer's wrist than the fit provided by the glove shell itself in the absence of the gauntlet insert. In addition, the gauntlet insert provides moisture absorption to collect perspiration which runs from the hand to the wrist area, as well as perspiration which runs from the arm toward the hand during use by the wearer. Both the fit and absorption features of the gauntlet insert provide for improved tactility, dexterity and comfort to the wearer during use.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2000Publication date: August 22, 2002Inventors: Gregory D. Culler, Francis J. Masley, Stephen McGrath

Patent number: 5981019Abstract: The present invention is an improved protective cover for use in protecting a wearer against liquid contact, even under highly demanding conditions. The invention describes a seam that joins two laminates where the seam provides against leakage and air passage according to tests described in the text.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1997Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.Inventors: Brent I. Goodwin, Francis J. Masley

Patent number: 5700544Abstract: The present invention is an improved protective cover for use in protecting a wearer against liquid contact, even under highly demanding conditions. The present invention identifies previously ignored voids in seams as a chief cause of failure in protective garments and other covers in shielding against air, liquid or virus penetration over an extended period of time. By sealing the seams with adhesive so as to fully encapsulate fibers therein and reduce void size to less than 10 micron, the risk leakage through the cover is dramatically reduced.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1995Date of Patent: December 23, 1997Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.Inventors: Brent I. Goodwin, Francis J. Masley

Patent number: 5687424Abstract: An improved hand covering is provided of the type having an index finger stall, a thumb stall, a dorsal portion and a palm portion. The hand covering is provided with at least one index finger covering having an upper portion, an arching transition section to a lower portion, and a ridge formed at the union of the upper and lower portion. The index finger covering is dimensioned to resemble a human index finger tip. A thumb covering may also be provided which has an upper section, an arching transition section to a lower portion, and a ridge formed at the union of the upper and lower portion. The thumb covering is dimensioned to resemble a human thumb tip. The hand covering provides a wearer with improved dexterity and tactility, thereby, allowing the wearer, for example, to pick up or manipulate small objects and perform fine motor skill movements.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1996Date of Patent: November 18, 1997Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.Inventor: Francis J. Masley

Patent number: 5636382Abstract: A protective glove system having at least two components including a waterproof and water vapor permeable inner glove component that provides a barrier against allergens and an outer glove component that is liquidproof. A method of using the glove system is also provided. Protective shoe systems, body suits, and headgear systems are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1994Date of Patent: June 10, 1997Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.Inventors: David A. Chopko, Brent I. Goodwin, Francis J. Masley, Jaclyn M. Woll

Patent number: 5569507Abstract: The present invention is an improved protective cover for use in shielding against contamination or infection, such as through contact with viruses. The present invention identifies previously ignored voids in seams as a chief cause of failure in protective garments and other covers in shielding against virus penetration. By sealing the seams with adhesive so as to fully encapsulate fibers therein and reduce void size to less than 10 micron, the risk of virus penetration is eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1995Date of Patent: October 29, 1996Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.Inventors: Brent I. Goodwin, Francis J. Masley

Patent number: 5566405Abstract: A method for manufacturing an improved hand covering is provided which is defined by mating first and second hand shaped portions seamed one to each other to form a complete hand covering. The hand covering defines at least one finger stall, a thumb stall, a palm portion, a dorsal portion, and at least one finger crotch. At least one vertical fold is permanently defined in the hand covering. The at least one vertical fold is oriented substantially parallel to the at least one finger stall. The at least one vertical fold reduces an original palm circumferential dimension of the hand covering in an amount from about 10% to about 50%.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1995Date of Patent: October 22, 1996Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.Inventor: Francis J. Masley
