  • Patent number: 7056536
Abstract: A non-corrosive, liquid, aqueous sterilant composition (as a concentrate or ready-to-use solution), which may be provided in two parts which are mixed prior to application, may comprise a peracid (in an equilibrium solution with an underlying carboxylic acid or mixtures of alkyl carboxylic acids and peroxide), inorganic buffering agent, and water. It has been found that the use of this simplified system, even in the absence of additional components which have been thought to be desirable for sterilants used on metal parts (e.g.

  • Patent number: 6749869
Abstract: The mastitis control teat dip composition of the invention provides rapid initial kill, a useful highly pseudoplastic rheology, a barrier/film-forming capacity, a unique antimicrobial composition that is stable over an extended period of time, and unexpected long term microbial control when compared to the prior art materials disclosed in patents and used in the marketplace. The compositions of the invention are made by combining an aqueous thickened liquid composition containing the organic components which can be combined with a simple aqueous solution of a salt of chlorous acid, preferably an alkali metal chlorite. The materials can be combined, blended into a smooth viscous material and can be immediately contacted with the target animals. The compositions of the invention provide rapid initial kill, consistent long term kill and chemical and rheological stability.

  • Patent number: 6699510
Abstract: The mastitis control teat dip composition having a visible indicator aspect of the invention provides a softening, soothing, smoothing, relaxing property, a rapid initial kill, a useful highly pseudoplastic rheology, a barrier/film-forming capacity, a unique antimicrobial composition that is stable over an extended period of time, and unexpected long term microbial control when compared to the prior art materials disclosed in patents and used in the marketplace. The indicator aspect provides ease of visually detecting the material on the animal skin and can indicate efficacy of the material. • Patent number: 6627657
Abstract: Compositions having antimicrobial activity against a variety of microorganisms, including vegetative bacteria, bacterial spores, fungi, and fungal spores are particularly useful for microbiocidal treatments of a variety of substances. More specifically, compositions have antibmicrobial activity against microorganisms of the Bacillus cereus group such as Bacillus cereus, Bacillus mycoides, Bacillus anthracis, and Bacillus thuringiensis are particularly useful. Compositions including hydrogen peroxide, a carboxylic acid, and a peroxycarboxylic acid in which the weight ratio of the peroxycarboxylic acid to the hydrogen peroxide is at least 4:1 are effective against microorganisms, particularly bacterial spores. Such compositions include a reduced amount of hydrogen peroxide relative to the amount of peroxycarboxylic acid as compared to conventional compositions. Compositions can also include a quaternary ammonium compound, a stabilizing agent, a surfactant, a hydrotrope, or other additives.

  • Patent number: 6326032
Abstract: A peroxyacid antimicrobial concentrate and use composition is provided comprising a C1 to C4 peroxycarboxylic acid or a C1 to C4 peroxycarboxylic acid combined with a C6 to C18 peroxyacid in beverage processing. The combination of these materials produces a synergistic effect, providing a much more potent biocide than can be obtained by using these components separately. Other components can be added to the composition such as hydrotrope coupling agents, stabilizers, etc. An effective antimicrobial use solution is formed at low concentrations when the concentrate composition is diluted with water to a pH in the range of about 2 to 8. Sanitizing of substantially fixed, “in-place” processing lines in dairies, breweries, and other food and beverage processing operations is one utility of the composition. Another utility is in processes including aseptic cold filling of beverage containers such as cans, glass bottles or two liter PET bottles.
