  • Patent number: 5350273
Abstract: A wind-driven apparatus for converting the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical energy. This invention incorporates a wind collector that is rotated upon an elevated turntable in order to position the wind collector as required. This turntable incorporates both a covered track and casters so as to provide weather protection. Additionally, a shroud secured to the entrance to the wind collector helps direct the wind energy against the wind collector.

  • Patent number: 5009569
Abstract: A wind-driven apparatus for the conversion of kenetic energy in the form of wind to rotational mechanical energy. This apparatus incorporates a funnel that directs wind against a collector causing it to rotate. To prevent any backpressure in the funnel or against the collector, the area immediately downstream of the collector is free of any obstacle or channeling devices. To also prevent any backpressure from developing, a series of blow-through panels form a part of the funnel which open upon the presence of high pressure--the greater the pressure, the greater the opening.

  • Patent number: 4972614
Abstract: A sign carrying device. A cylindrical base section vertically mounted in a footing has an upper cylindrical section extending upwardly therefrom. A first collar extends radially outwardly between the sections for rotatably receiving a sign carrying support structure. The support structure is formed from two (2) frame members connected together by horizontal supports, one of which is connected to a second collar which is rotatably received on the first collar by providing bearings therebetween. A pulley rotatably mounted in the upper cylindrical section and dual pulleys mounted on a brace extending from the upper cylindrical section have a cable threaded over and therethrough respectively. One end of the cable is rigidly attached to the sign carrying support structure and the other end is attached to a counterweight suspended inside the axially-aligned bores of the cylindrical base section and the upper cylindrical section.

  • Patent number: 4910898
Abstract: A sign carrying device having a rotatable super-structure with panels pivotally mounted therein and which pivot in response to wind pressure applied on their surfaces. A footing has a base section mounted therein which rotatably receives an upper section with the superstructure mounted thereon. Shear pins placed between the upper and base sections prevent rotation of the upper section until a predetermined rotational torque is placed thereon. The superstructure mounted on the upper section has a plurality of panels pivotally mounted thereon with spring hinges which allow deflection of the panels in response to wind pressure on the panel surfaces to allow the wind to pass through the superstructure and reduce the risk of damage to the device. The spring hinges cause the panels to return to their normally closed position when there is little or no wind.
