Patent number: 11102281Abstract: This present invention is directed towards a container orchestration system such as Kubernetes in which pods monitor themselves to determine if they are likely to require additional resources or vertical scaling within a given timeframe. If the pod determines that it will need additional processing power it notifies the state manager to begin allocating these resources on the same node or a different virtual or physical node before the CPU usage reaches 99%+. The state manager receives this request and allocates the necessary resources ahead of time. When the pod's CPU usage reaches 99%+, the state manager will remove the pod from the existing node and moves the application to the new pod on a different node in which sufficient resources are allocated. This invention brings about efficient utilization of nodes.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2019Date of Patent: August 24, 2021Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Alex C. Chatt, Andrew Dunnings, Samuel Hawker, Uchendu Emmanuel Nnorom, Simon Francis Page

Publication number: 20150046591Abstract: A system and method for managing edge servers and the location of edge servers in a content delivery network is provided. Incoming content requests to a plurality of existing edge servers are analyzed with respect to their originating locations. It is determined that a new edge server should be added to the network at a location where none of the plurality of existing edge servers reside. A data center is selected in accordance with the desired location, and a new edge server is instantiated. Traffic handled by two or more of the existing edge servers can be consolidated and routed to the new edge server. Edge servers are dynamically added to and removed from the network.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 9, 2013Publication date: February 12, 2015Inventors: Zhongwen Zhu, Francis Page

Publication number: 20140237081Abstract: The invention relates to a method, Multimedia Content Manager (MuMCM), gateway and user device for managing multimedia content download. The MuMCM is in communication with a user device and with an operator network through a subscription. The MuMCM can be implemented in hardware as a standalone device or as a software service, running in a gateway or user device. The method includes sending a request for data usage for the subscription to the operator network and receiving a response comprising the data usage. The method includes receiving a request for multimedia content, sending a modified request for the multimedia content to a content provider, the request being modified according to a maximum content size available for download and receiving a multimedia content. The method includes transmitting the multimedia content to the user device and storing the multimedia content in a cache.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 15, 2013Publication date: August 21, 2014Inventors: Zhongwen ZHU, Francis PAGE, Julie DUFORT

Publication number: 20130179215Abstract: Assessing risks arising from relationships with third-parties that support the operations or strategic goals of an organization, such as a bank, are provided. A risk assessment system receives risk assessment values respectively corresponding to the likelihood, severity, and control for a risk item associated with a third-party relationship. The risk assessment system then determines a risk priority value for the risk item based on the risk assessment values. The risk assessment system may prioritize multiple risk items according to their respective risk priority values, risk categories, or both. In some arrangements, the risk assessment system may identify a risk item for additional risk mitigation and determine a risk mitigation action plan for the identified risk item.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 10, 2012Publication date: July 11, 2013Applicant: Bank of America CorporationInventors: Racquel Clough Foster, Gary Francis Page, Brett D. Publication number: 20100198661Abstract: Supply chain management using a supplier portfolio index (SPI) is disclosed. A single risk and performance metric for a supplier can be used across portfolios at both the business unit and enterprise level. The SPI can be produced by stratifying suppliers to obtain a plurality of risk element scores, which in turn are used to obtain a composite supplier risk index. A supplier performance scorecard metric can also be determined by combining a plurality of individual performance metrics. The composite supplier risk index, the supplier performance scorecard metric, and an indication of supplier manager certification can be aggregated to produce SPI. Percentage weights can be applied to the composite supplier risk index, the supplier performance scorecard metric, and the indication of supplier manager certification status so that the SPI is indicated on a 100-point scale.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 30, 2009Publication date: August 5, 2010Applicant: BANK OF AMERICA CORPORATIONInventors: Paul Mitchell McMurray, Mary Frances Edwards, Margaret Susan Lipps, Kevin Michael Woerner, Gary Francis Page, Caroline Kaminer Dellinger, Gregg Sloan, Karen Webb Bailey, Laurie Venzon
