  • Publication number: 20090186839
Abstract: The invention provides novel inhibitors of protein translation initiation and inhibitors of eIF4F activity that can increase chemosensitivity or diminish or reverse chemoresistance in growth transformed cells and thereby reduce hyperproliferative conditions, such as cancer progression, in select patient populations having particular tumor genotypes. The invention also provides methods which target translation initiation controls in growth-transformed cells, such as tumor subtypes with altered expression of a gene activity, including the human akt, bcl-2, eIF4E, eIF4A or PTEN activities, to restore drug sensitivity in vivo in a genotype selective manner. In one aspect, the inhibitors of translation initiation of the invention are rocaglates, i.e., cyclopenta[b]benzofurons, which increases chemosensitivity or diminishes or reverses chemoresistance either alone or in combination, additively or synergistically, with other agents that alter growth or death.

  • Patent number: 5840152
Abstract: An apparatus for joining a first web (8) consisting of plastic material to a second web (9) consisting of absorbent material, wherein the arrangement includes a cooling-roll (1), a counter-roll (2), and means for feeding the first and the second webs through the nip defined between the cooling-roll and the counter-roll, the webs being pressed together in the nip, and wherein the plastic material in the first web (8) is in a plastic state when entering the nip. A pattern of molds (5) having air-permeable bottoms is arranged over at least a part of the mantle surface of the cooling-roll (1) and a vacuum box (7) is arranged inwardly of the cooling-roll mantle in the region of abutment of the first web (8) with the cooling roll, with cooling devices (3, 4) for cooling the cooling-roll mantle from outside the roll.

  • Patent number: 4468666
Abstract: The apparatus comprises a first marking element rigid with a disk rotationally driven in synchronism with the translation movement of the member and a detector which delivers an electrical signal upon the passage of the marking. The disk makes many complete rotations for the complete stroke of the member. A second marking element is rigid with the member and a second detecting device delivers an electrical signal upon the passage of the marking in front of the detector. The logic circuit C processes these two electrical signals so as to produce a signal 10 which gives the instant when the moving member passes through the reference position.
