Patent number: 7492733Abstract: A system and method is provided for transmitting a packet received at a Foreign Agent associated with a Packet Data Service Node where the packet has a source network layer address, such as an Internet Protocol address of a mobile station that points to a geographically remote Home Agent and a destination Internet Protocol address. The method comprises caching Internet Protocol addresses in memory, comparing the destination Internet Protocol address of the received packet with the Internet Protocol addresses in memory, and if no match is found, querying a Policy Server for a match, and forwarding the received packet with the Internet Protocol address of the Foreign Agent associated with the Packet Data Service Node as the source Internet Protocol address when the destination address of the received packet matches the Internet Protocol address in memory or Policy Server, resulting in significant savings in transport cost and response time.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2001Date of Patent: February 17, 2009Assignee: Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc.Inventors: Hassan Hagirahim, Francis Waldman

Publication number: 20080151879Abstract: A platform (300) that supports (101) voice over Internet Protocol services for an Internet Protocol-compatible telephone (401), in response to detecting (102) that a given telephone-side capability of supporting the voice over Internet Protocol services for the Internet Protocol-compatible telephone is impaired, can automatically substitute (103) a standard telephone (402) for the Internet Protocol-compatible telephone such that a same telephone number as is used for the Internet Protocol-compatible telephone is also used for the standard telephone. This can comprise, at least in part, automatically interacting with a Session Initiation Protocol proxy server to facilitate the redirection of calls for the Internet Protocol-compatible telephone.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2006Publication date: June 26, 2008Applicant: UTSTARCOM, INC.Inventors: Francis Waldman, Manish Gupta

Patent number: 7356484Abstract: In one aspect, the invention relates to a method for creating a supplier-rating matrix for rating services of a supplier. The method includes defining a plurality of job attributes each including a plurality of sub-attributes, each sub-attribute representing a range of job attribute values and defining a job attribute vector associated with the supplier, the job attribute vector including a plurality of dimensions each corresponding to a sub-attribute. The method further includes defining a plurality of performance metrics and defining a performance vector associated with the supplier, the performance vector including a plurality of dimensions each corresponding to a performance metric. The method further includes defining a initial values for the job attribute vector and the performance vector and generating a supplier rating matrix for the supplier by mathematically combining the job attribute vector and the performance vector.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2001Date of Patent: April 8, 2008Assignee: Agile Software CorporationInventors: Michael H. Patent number: 7330460Abstract: The invention comprises a system and method for transmitting and receiving multiplexed Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) traffic. The invention advantageously provides efficient gateway-to-gateway communication by reducing overhead where at least two conversations are transmitted between VoIP gateways. Additionally, signal degradation is avoided since there is no transcoding of signals.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2000Date of Patent: February 12, 2008Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Hassan Hagirahim, Francis Waldman

Publication number: 20020154642Abstract: Let's assume a Mobile Station (MS) with the home location in New York connects to the wireless network in La Jolla, Calif., to a Packet Data Service Node/Foreign Agent (PDSN/FA) in San Diego. The MS has an IP address that points to the home network in New York. To authenticate the user, the PDSN/FA connects to the Home Agent in New York. After authentication/authorization, the user will ask for services by sending IP packets to the PDSN/FA. The user requests restaurant recommendations within 2 miles from his/her current position. The PDSN/FA forwards the user's IP packets to the service provider server that in our example is Los Angeles. The network determines the user's current location and provides him/her with a list of restaurants. The server sends the packets to the source address learned from the user's packets. This address points to the home network in New York and the packets will be forwarded to the Home Agent in New York.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 24, 2001Publication date: October 24, 2002Inventors: Hassan Hagirahim, Francis Waldman

Patent number: 5223796Abstract: Apparatus and methods for measuring the properties of a material by employing a driven electrode, a sensing electrode and a shunting electrode. The shunting electrode is disposed in proximity to the driven and sensing electrodes and functions to increase the sensitivity of electrical measurements made between the driven and sensing electrodes by influencing the coupling of the imposed electric field to the sensing electrode to a degree related to the properties of the material under test.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1991Date of Patent: June 29, 1993Assignee: Axiomatics CorporationInventors: Francis A. Patent number: 4932243Abstract: A method of determining the moisture content of a material in which the material is caused to flow continually through a sensor region, the spatially averaged temperature of the material being continually determined independently of the dynamic thermal response of the material. The loss and capacitance of the sensor is also continually determined, the moisture content of the material than being determined in response to the spatially averaged temperature and the loss and capacitance determinations independently of changes in the packing density of the material as it continually flows through the sensor region.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1989Date of Patent: June 12, 1990Assignee: Axiomatics CorporationInventors: Nam P. Patent number: 4922082Abstract: An ohmically or electrothermally controlled valve gate for injection molding apparatus comprises three concentrically located tubes in intimate contact with each other. The innermost tube is an electrode and also serves as the passage for flowing molding material. The outermost of the three tubes is also an electrode. The intermediate tube is a resistive heating element comprising a mixture of at least two highly compacted powders. One powder is an electrical conductor, while the other powder, which serves as a binder for the first powder, is an electrical insulator but a good thermal conductor. Current flow between the electrodes occurs at points of contact between adjacent particles of the conductive powder. Thus, the electrical resistance and therefore the generation of heat is controlled by the composition and quantity of binder in the heating element. The generated heat is conducted through the inner electrode tube to the flowing plastic to melt the plastic and "open" the gate.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1989Date of Patent: May 1, 1990Assignee: Axiomatics CorporationInventors: James F. Bredt, Nam P. Suh, Francis A. Waldman

Patent number: 4473665Abstract: Microcellular foam materials having void fractions of about 5 to 30 percent and uniform void sizes on the order of 2 to 25 microns are produced by pre-saturating the material to be processed with a uniform concentration of a gas while controlling temperature and pressure to avoid cell nucleation. Processing is also done under pressure to avoid nucleation. After processing, pressure is released and cell nucleation occurs at or near the glass transition temperature of the material; it is then cooled quickly to preserve the microcellular structure.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1982Date of Patent: September 25, 1984Assignee: Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyInventors: Jane E.
