  • Patent number: 11512590
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for gathering and segregation of oil extracted from a resource fields with a plurality of disparate sources in relatively close proximity. Instead of assigning a quality and/or destination for crude oil from an extraction source based on the origin of the crude oil, the crude oil can be characterized while still in local storage at or near the wellhead prior to transport to a refinery, a shipping or pipeline terminal, or another type destination for crude oil. Based on the characterization, one or more characteristics of the crude oil can be used to assign the crude oil to one of a plurality of destinations. The crude oil can then be transported to the assigned destination.

  • Publication number: 20180143168
Abstract: Methods to generate a model of composition for a petroleum sample can include providing a petroleum sample to a two-dimensional gas chromatograph coupled with at least one detector. The chromatograph can have first and second columns. The chromatograph can be adapted to output data for each detector representing first and second dimension retention times corresponding to the first and second columns, respectively. The data representing the first and second dimension retention times for each detector based on the petroleum sample can be obtained from the chromatograph. Molecular components of the petroleum sample can be identified based at least in part on the first and second dimension retention times for each detector. The identified molecular components of the petroleum sample can be quantified based at least in part on integrated peaks of the first and second dimension retention times for each detector to generate a model of composition of the petroleum sample.

  • Patent number: 8999012
Abstract: A method for controlling the manufacture and certification of an oxygenated gasoline product is carried out by manufacturing a gasoline Basestock for Oxygenate Blending (BOB) at a refinery site in accordance with an empirical relationship, valid for at that site under typical manufacturing conditions, between (i) a property value of the BOB stream such as octane as determined by an on-site online process analyzer and (ii) the corresponding instantaneous value or FPAPV property value as determined by the test method mandated by the product specification for the final gasoline stream when blended with the required proportion of oxygenate. The quality of fit of this empirical relationship is calculated according to the standard deviation of the residuals of the relationship and a confidence level is fixed so that the final oxygenated gasoline formulated with the BOB will meet the required property specification when measured by the test method mandated by the specification.

  • Patent number: 8986402
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an oxygenated gasoline-blend by blending a hydrocarbon Basestock for Oxygenate Blending (BOB) with an alcohol such as ethanol to a required octane specification first blends the BOB to an octane number, (RON+MON)/2 based on the octane sensitivity (RON?MON) of the BOB and the proportion of alcohol to be added to the BOB, such that when the BOB is blended with the specification proportion of alcohol to form the oxygenated gasoline blend, this blend will have the required octane specification. The blending of the BOB with the alcohol will typically be done at a location remote from that where the BOB is blended, e.g. at the product distribution terminal after being transported from the refinery by pipeline or tank car.

  • Patent number: 5300213
Abstract: An automatic transmission fluid basestock of mineral oil origin is produced from a neutral distillate fraction, preferably a medium neutral distillate, by severe furfural extraction to a dewaxed oil equivalent VI of about 95, severe hydrocracking, at temperatures ranging from at least about 700.degree. F. and pressures of at least about 1,500 psig, to achieve a minimum product VI of 120. The hydrocracked product is vacuum distilled to recover a lubricant oil product boiling above about 650.degree. F. which has a VI of at least 120 and a viscosity at 100.degree. F. of at least 100 SUS. The viscosity of the 120 VI product can be increased by increasing the distillation cut point without impacting the VI. The lubricant oil, having a wax content below 30 wt. %.
