The gifting platform may send a redemption update message to the computing device that includes a secret symbol. The computing device may generate a timestamp and display the secret symbol and the timestamp to enable an employee of the merchant to verify the timestamp and the secret symbol and provide a gift corresponding to the gift entitlement.
