    Abstract: A method includes obtaining a nominal distance between a printhead and an X cut line position in a printer; obtaining a predetermined slice length of an image to be printed; determining an adjusted slice length as a function of the nominal distance and an offset; advancing a print medium through a print zone of the printer in accordance with the predetermined slice length or the adjusted slice length, and printing an image slice after a print medium advance; repeating the advancing and printing a number N of times; and after the Nth print medium advance, printing an image slice and cutting the print medium at the X cut line position.

In an example method print media are advanced in a feeding direction to reach a cutting position, a cutter is advanced in a cutting direction, perpendicular to the feeding direction to cut the print media, changes in friction are identified when the cutter contacts the print media, positions of the cutter are identified when the changes in friction are identified and border positions are determined based on the identifying of cutter positions.

    Abstract: A method of determining calibration values for a media advance system of a page wide array printing device is described. A test pattern is printed on a calibration medium which advances along a media axis through the printing device. The test pattern comprises a plurality of test marks. The test pattern is scanned along a scan axis using a sensor and the calibration medium is advanced along the media axis through the printing device. The dimensions of the scanned test marks are analyzed, and calibration values are determined from the analyzed dimensions of the test marks. The scan axis is orthogonal to the media axis.
