  • Publication number: 20070068865
Abstract: A filtering apparatus includes a microsieve with a membrane. The microsieve is coupled between a supply and drain channel. The membrane contains pores between the upstream surface and the downstream surface, as well as a spatial pattern of height variations in the upstream surface of the membrane, so that in a vicinity of a majority of the pores, within a distance of less than ten pore sizes from each of the pores in the majority, at least one of the height variations is provided. The height variations impede proper adhesion of larger particles from the liquid to the upstream surface and thereby reduce clogging problems.

  • Patent number: 6183891
Abstract: Method of manufacturing a thin-film magnetic head comprising an inductive transducing system. A non-magnetic, insulating material for forming a first insulation layer (13), on which an inductive transducing element (15) is formed, is deposited on a plane basic surface (11). Subsequently, a non-magnetic, insulating material for forming a second insulation layer (19) is deposited on the first insulation layer and the inductive transducing element formed thereon. Subsequently, material is removed in an area proximate to a head face (30) to be formed for forming an aperture extending through the first and the second insulation layer and reaching as far as the basic surface, whereafter a non-magnetic, insulating material for forming a gap layer (29) is deposited in the aperture.

  • Patent number: 5917683
Abstract: A thin-film magnetic head (101) includes windings assembled from two levels (105, 106) having two electrically conducting layers (103, 104), each including a connecting track (107, 116) and a winding (110, 113). To reduce the electrical resistance, auxiliary tracks (130, 131) which are in contact with the connecting tracks and also form part of the layers extend parallel to the connecting tracks. Consequently, no additional manufacturing steps are required.

  • Patent number: 5466495
Abstract: Method of manufacturing a magnetic head, in which a transducing structure (1) comprising at least a transducing element (5) is formed on a substrate (3) by means of a thin-film technique, after which a thick film coating (23) is provided on an uneven surface (21), remote from the substrate, of the structure formed. The thick film has a thickness which is minimally equal to the distance between an area (21A) of said surface which is farthest remote from the substrate and an area (21B) which is most proximate to the substrate and is deposited on said surface by means of PE-CVD.

  • Patent number: 5270895
Abstract: Combined read/write thin-film magnetic head comprising a read portion including a magneto-resistive element, a write portion including an inductive element, and a shared flux guide between the read and write portions. Improved separation of the read and write functions is achieved by providing the shared flux guide as a sandwich structure of two soft magnetic layers separated by an insulating layer, except that the soft-magnetic layers are interconnected in a magnetically conducting manner proximate to the head face.

  • Patent number: 5217819
Abstract: For a tape contact face to be formed in a thin-film magnetic head having at least one transducing element, by removing material, a reference plane (29) corresponding to the tape contact face is detected by means of a plurality of markers (27A-27J) juxtaposed in a layer and extending transversely to the tape contact face, which markers have first end portions (27A1-27J1) pointing in one direction and second, spatially separated end portions (27A2-27J2) pointing in an opposite direction, with the second end portions located at different distances from the reference plane, inclined with respect to the reference plane, and adjoining each other steplessly.

  • Patent number: 5200870
Abstract: A thin-film magnetic head has a connecting tab (22), provided on a substrate (23) for the connection of an external connecting track (16). In the region of a central portion (21) of the connecting tab an auxiliary layer (26) is provided between the connecting tab (22) and the substrate (23), as a result of which the central portion (21) of the connecting tab is located at a larger distance from the substrate than coating portions (24) of a shielding layer (25). This provides a proper contact between the external connecting track (16) and the connecting tab (22), even if the external connecting track (16) is in not such a good position with respect to the connecting tab (22).
