  • Patent number: 8338343
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for an additive composition comprising an amidized or imidized polymer. The invention further relates to a highly grafted, multi-functional lubricant additive useful to improve the viscosity index and dispersancy properties of a lubricating oil composition. The present invention also relates to a method of extending lubricant drain intervals and improving fuel economy and fuel economy durability. The additive composition is prepared by: (A) reacting an olefin copolymer of ethylene and at least one C3 to C23 &agr; -olefin comprising from about 15 to 80 mole percent of ethylene, from about 20 to 85 mole percent of said C3 to C23 &agr; -olefin and from about 0 to 15 wt percent of a polyene, said copolymer having a number average molecular weight ranging from 1,000 to 500,000, with an olefinic carboxylic acid acylating agent, said process comprising heating said polymer to a molten condition at a temperature in the range of 60° C. to 240° C.

  • Patent number: 8043663
Abstract: Process for the coating of objects, comprising contacting the objects with a composition comprising an additive, a film-forming binder and optionally a distributing agent, at a temperature below the softening temperature Tp of the objects and at a temperature at which the binder can form a film, forming and consolidating an additive-containing layer of binder on the surface of the objects, the objects being kept in mutual motion while they are being contacted with the composition and while the additive-containing layer of binder is being formed and consolidated, which process is carried out in a container bounded by walls of which the temperature of the walls is so much lower than the application temperature that formation of a film of the binder on the walls is prevented.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 26, 2006
Date of Patent: October 25, 2011
    Assignee: DSM IP Assets B.V.
Inventors: Leonardus Gerardus Bernardus Bremer, Franciscus Victoire Paulus Houtvast

  • Publication number: 20110021700
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing a grafted rubber comprising: a) providing an ethylene propylene rubber having a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of at least 80 kg/mol in a continuous extrusion reactor by feeding the rubber in a slab/melt dosing unit and transporting the rubber to the continuous extrusion reactor by a melt pump; b) drying the rubber in the continuous extrusion reactor to a moisture content of between about 0.2 and about 0.5 wt %; c) providing the dried rubber to a first injection zone of the continuous extrusion reactor at a temperature of between 190 and 250° C.
