  • Patent number: 6832400
Abstract: A patient handling system (10) for use with a medical imaging or radiation therapy device, and an associated pallet mounting apparatus (12) for releasably mounting a pallet (18) on the pallet support assembly (16) of a patient handling system. The patient handling system (10) includes a pallet (18) for supporting a patient, and a pallet support assembly (16) for supporting the pallet (18) and for positioning the pallet (18) to facilitate the scanning of a patient positioned on the pallet (18) using the medical imaging device, or to facilitate the application of radiation therapy to a patient using a radiation therapy device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 19, 2002
Date of Patent: December 21, 2004
    Assignee: CTI PET Systems, Inc.
Inventors: George E. Loveday, III, Franck Picker

  • Patent number: 5720165
Abstract: A system for burning biomass to produce hot gas including a wood processing system, a combustor, a cyclone ash separator, a turbine, and a control system. The wood processing system serves to process, dry and prepare the biomass for injection into the combustor. The biomass is injected into the bottom of the combustor. Combustion of the biomass takes place in the combustor. The resultant combustion gas enters the cyclone ash separator for removal of ash in the combustion gas. The cleaned combustion gas exits the cyclone ash separator via a duct. An air bypass assembly (104) permits and controls a flow of bypass air (129) from an annulus 98 of the cyclone ash separator into the duct to combine with the combustion gas. The combustion gas and bypass air (129) enter the turbine, where they expand to power the turbine.

  • Patent number: 5463291
Abstract: A cyclotron and associated magnet coil and coil fabricating process. The cyclotron (10) includes a return yoke (12) defining a cavity (28) therein. A plurality of wedge-shaped regions called "hills" (29) are disposed in the return yoke (12), and voids called "valleys" (34) are defined between the hills (29). A single, substantially circular magnet coil (40) surrounds and axially spans the hills (29) and the valleys (34). The cyclotron magnet coil fabricating process includes the steps of securing a first end portion of a continuous length of sheet conductor to a substantially circular base, and positioning a first end portion of a length of insulator material coated on opposite sides with a thermosetting resin between the first end portion of the sheet conductor and the base.

  • Patent number: 4685391
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for crushing differently shaped and/or sized containers of waste material without disassembly of the device. A mold, having an inner cavity sized so as to accommodate a larger container, has a sleeve located therein which can be locked to the mold for simultaneous operation. The sleeve has an inner cavity of a shape and size so as to contain the smaller container and also to allow a ram to move through the sleeve cavity and compress the smaller container. The ram also has a structure for locking the sleeve to the ram so as to permit the sleeve ram combination to crush a larger container which has been located in the mold cavity. The locking and unlocking of the mold/sleeve or sleeve/ram as well as the mold movement and ram movement are all remotely controlled so as to permit crushing of various sized and shaped containers without disassembly of the press and the consequent exposure of workers to possible hazardous conditions.

  • Patent number: RE29620
Abstract: A booster for a fluid pressure operated system in which relatively low pressure is used in the system and the booster is designed to be positioned immediately adjacent the fluid operated mechanism so as to eliminate the need for high pressure fittings and components. The booster has a spool which is shiftable in response to pressure build up in the mechanism. The spool acts as a sliding valve to direct fluid flow through a pressure converter such as a turbine or volumetric motor-pump located inside the spool.
