Publication number: 20230264532Abstract: An apparatus and a method for controlling sequential unlocking, deployment or retraction, and locking of a hi-rail gear unit. There is a valve system in which some of the valves are configured to actuate a deployment cylinder that deploys or retracts the hi-rail device, wherein some of the valves are configured to actuate a locking cylinder that locks or unlocks the hi-rail gear unit deployed or retracted; said actuations being independent from each other. A multi-axis controller is connected to the valve system and has a rod configured to move freely by pivoting, the positions of the first multi-axis controller including a first lock position, a first unlock position, a first engaged position and a first disengaged position. A guiding forces the rod along a locking axis prior to permitting movement of the rod along a deployment axis to force unlocking before deployment or retraction.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 24, 2022Publication date: August 24, 2023Inventors: François AUBÉ, Nicholas GROMAK

Publication number: 20210323365Abstract: A hi-rail device for mounting on a vehicle, comprising a locking slot comprising a first locking end and a second locking end, and a locking pin movable in translation within the locking slot and captured therein. The locking slot which is continuous between the first locking end and the second locking end, thereby being confined between the first locking end and the second locking end. A linkage is provided, and is foldable and unfoldable to displace an axle assembly for holding wheels. A spring-extended locking cylinder extends from the linkage to the locking pin, comprising a locking spring to urge the locking pin into the respective abutting surface of any one of the first locking end and the second locking end when the locking pin is in any one of them, thereby using only spring force in extension to lock the linkage into either locking position.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 30, 2021Publication date: October 21, 2021Inventors: Francois AUBÉ, Iman HAZRATI-ASHTIANI

Patent number: 11077731Abstract: There is described a hi-rail device for mounting on a vehicle, comprising a linkage between an axle assembly for holding wheels and a mounting assembly. The linkage, pivotally connected to an upper pivot connection thereof, is foldable and unfoldable to translate the axle assembly relative to the upper pivot connection. An active suspension between the linkage and the mounting assembly is provided and comprises a suspension body to swivel about the mounting assembly, actuated by a spring proximally urging on the suspension body to provide the swivel. The suspension body comprising the upper connection to the linkage, which can move along with the suspension body to provide active suspension. Also, a locking pin, extending through the linkage, can be locked in a slot using a hydraulic cylinder, distinct from a hydraulic cylinder for deployment, and which comprises a spring for default locking not involving hydraulic power.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2018Date of Patent: August 3, 2021Assignee: TECHNOLOGIE CONTINENTAL RAILWORKS I INC. / CONTINEInventors: Iman Hazrati-Ashtiani, Francois Aube

Patent number: 10625548Abstract: There is described a hi-rail device comprising a cam assembly, an axle assembly and a locking pin. The cam assembly comprises a guiding slot which comprises a plurality of contiguous segments extending as a broken line, e.g., in a flattened M shape, wherein a first one and a last one of the contiguous segments extend in a downward slope with respect to a horizon. The locking pin inserted in the guiding slot and movable in translation within the guiding slot in which it is inserted. The axle assembly, in which the locking pin is inserted, has a weight applied on the locking pin which locks the locking pin in the lower end or the upper end of the guiding slot if the locking pin is in the first one or the last one of the four contiguous segments and no other force is applied thereonto.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2017Date of Patent: April 21, 2020Assignee: TECHNOLOGIE CONTINENTAL RAILWORKS I INC.Inventor: Francois Aube

Patent number: 8087823Abstract: A structure has a heat dissipating feature, an internal temperature measurement device, and a memory. The structure generates heat as power is supplied to the structure, and a threshold voltage of the internal temperature measurement device changes as the temperature of the temperature measurement device changes. The embodiments herein establish a linear relationship between temperature and threshold voltage by heating the structure to a first temperature and recording a first threshold voltage, and then heating the structure to a second temperature and recording a second threshold voltage. From this, the embodiments herein calculate a linear relationship between temperature and threshold voltage. Further, the embodiments herein can calculate the temperatures of the structure based only upon the linear relationship and threshold voltages measured from internal temperature measurement device.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 2008Date of Patent: January 3, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Francois Aube, Timothy M.
