The modular roof has at least two modular roof elements (7, 14, 15) which are fixed directly to the roof structure (2). The modular roof elements (7, 14, 15), which extend over the entire breadth of the roof structure, are preferably fixed, especially releasably fixed, to the side members (5, 6) which lie opposite each other.

A multiple-joint arrangement is provided for swiveling the motor vehicle roof out of the closed position into the open position and thus allowing the vehicle to be easily converted from a pick-up into a convertible. The multiple-joint arrangement includes a first part attached to the roof at or near the rear edge of the roof and a second part attached to a middle area of the roof.

The cover can be raised at its rear edge by displacement of the carriage to the rear and can be pushed to the rear with the rear edge of the cover raised to clear the roof opening.

Abstract: A motor vehicle, especially a sedan or a coupe, with a rear trunk and a cover means for alternately closing or clearing a top trunk opening to increase the usability of the rear area of the motor vehicle, the trunk is provided with a cover that is formed of several cover parts which are movably supported on each side of the trunk opening and in the open position can be moved forward into a storage position to clear the trunk opening. According to another approach, it is provided that a cargo box is mountable over a rear cargo space of the vehicle to provide it with an increased cargo volume by movement of a movable bottom of the cargo box from a closed position in which the cargo box is separated toward the cargo space to an open position in which the cargo box is opened toward the cargo space.
