    Abstract: The invention relates to a process of phosphating surfaces of iron and of steel with manganese.The abovesaid process is characterized by the fact on the one hand, that it does not include a refining treatment preceding the proper phosphating, and on the other hand, that the alkali degreasing bath has a pH of 9 to 12 and includes in suspension bivalent manganese in orthophosphate form.
