  • Patent number: 5569362
Abstract: A treatment process for the purpose of improving the chemical and/or physical durability of film containing one or more metallic oxides, nitrides, oxynitrides or oxycarbides deposited on a transparent substrate by a cathodic sputtering technique, notably assisted by a magnetic field and preferably reactive in the presence of oxygen. Said process consists of subjecting the film to a low energy ion beam.

    Assignee: Saint-Gobain Vitrage International
    Inventors: Francois Lerbet, Daniele Pillias
  • Patent number: 5443862
Abstract: A method is provided for generating one or more differentiated zones of electrical conductivity or infrared emissivity in a thin semi-conducting layer of metallic oxide or oxides, comprising:subjecting the thin semi-conducting layer to an ion beam having sufficient energy to cause a change in electrical conductivity or infrared emissivity of the one or more zones without atomizing the thin semi-conducting layer, wherein the thin semi-conducting layer is at a high temperature during the subjecting step and the use of the method to prepare films for incorporation into transparent heating panes having uniform heating characteristics, especially for use in vehicles.

  • Patent number: 5352504
Abstract: The invention relates to an electrochromic glazing successively comprising a glass sheet, a first electrode constituted by a transparent electroconductive layer, whose square resistance is below 5 Ohms, a layer of a cathodic electrochromic material, an electrolyte, a layer of an anodic electrochromic material and a second transparent electroconductive electrode, barrier layers being inserted between the said electrodes and the said electrochromic material layers, the square resistance of the assembly formed by an electrode and its barrier layer being below 5 Ohms.

  • Patent number: 5231531
Abstract: An electrochromatic glazing system is provided. The system comprises a first glass sheet covered with a first transparent electrically conductive film and a second glass sheet covered with a second transparent electrically conductive film. A film of electrochromatic material, an electrolyte, and a counterelectrode are interposed between the first and second transparent electrically conductive films. The first and second electrically conductive films are connected to a voltage generator by an electrical control circuit and the voltage generator receives a set-point value from a control unit equipped with a memory and generates a potential difference as a function of the temperature of the electrolyte.

    Assignee: Saint-Gobain Recherche
    Inventors: Francis Defendini, Francois Lerbet
  • Patent number: 5164855
Abstract: The invention pertains to an electrochromic system composed of a lithium ionic conductor electrolyte and a counter electrode symmetrical with the principal layer of electrochromic material and composed of a layer of nickel oxide, preferably deposited by reactive cathode sputtering in the presence of hydrogen-bearing plasma. The invention is used in particular for electrochromic windows, which can be used, for example, in automobile tops.

  • Patent number: 5124833
Abstract: The invention relates to an electrochromic glazing consisting of two glass sheets (1, 4) coated with first and second transparent electroconductive layers (2, 5), separated by a layer of an electrochromic material (9), an electrolyte (8) and a counterelectrode (7), said transparent electroconductive layers (2, 5) each being provided with an electroconductive strip (3, 6) parallel to the length of the glazing, made of a material whose electric conductivity is high relative to that of transparent electroconductive layers (2, 5). The electroconductive strips (3, 6) are placed along the opposite edges of the glazing and are connected to a voltage generator which applies in coloring phase (or in fading phase), between two points A and B on the electroconductive strips (3, 6) a potential difference U.sub.1 =(V.sub.A -V.sub.
