  • Publication number: 20070123258
Abstract: A method and a mobile receiver are provided for autonomous handoff at the mobile receiver in support for unidirectional transmission from fixed servers. The mobile receiver selects a broadcast server on which it then receives a designation for a downlink traffic channel which is not paired with an uplink traffic channel. Data and neighbor server information are received at the mobile receiver. The mobile receiver autonomously reselects a new server when it moves closer to the new server which now provides a better signal quality.

  • Patent number: 6999501
Abstract: The method and device attenuate an interferer of substantially known spectrum in a communication signal which has been transmitted through a transmission channel and processed through a signal-processing receiver chain. In these method and device, the substantially known spectrum is used to generate, independently of the communication signal, at least one image representative of a replica of the interferer after processing through the signal-processing receiver chain. The generated image is subtracted from the processed communication signal to produce a subtraction signal, and quality-indicative parameters of the processed communication signal and the subtraction signal(s) are calculated. Finally, the quality-indicative parameters are used to select one of the processed communication signal and subtraction signal(s) for further processing through the receiver. When a plurality of images are generated, these images have different features, for instance different amplitudes or phases.

  • Patent number: 6822947
Abstract: A packet core network (PCN) includes a plurality of interconnected routers. An emulator is provided along with at least one of the routers and operates to control transmission of Internet Protocol (IP) datagrams there through in order to simulate the effects of having one of the non-radio inter-router connections fictionally comprise a wireless cellular radio link. The emulator responds to user input specifying wireless cellular radio link conditions to determine a time delay to be applied by the router against the transmission of each datagram. This time delay is set roughly equivalent to the delay introduced, under the user specified wireless cellular radio link conditions, by emulated radio link operation to erase uncorrectable frames to obtain retransmission. The emulator further sets a data rate for router handling of datagrams based on the user input to simulate congestion on the radio link due to the presence of other, competing users.

  • Patent number: 6675020
Abstract: In a cellular telecommunications network, a method and a cell radio controller for reducing Out Of Band radio Emissions (OOBEs) generated by cellular transmissions into downlink radio channels of a coexisting radio network, such as the police radio network. The invention detects an uplink transmission of the coexistent network radio terminal, and measures its transmitting power level. If the power level exceeds a predetermined threshold, then the downlink radio channel associated with the radio transmission is determined, and further it is determined the cellular downlink channels that create OOBEs that interfere with the downlink radio channel of the coexistent system.

  • Patent number: 6496489
Abstract: A method and system for locating control channels, particularly digital control channels, are described. By grouping the channels which are candidates for carrying supervisory messages in blocks indicative of their relative likelihood for being used as control channels, a mobile station can begin its search for a control channel with channels which are most likely to actually be control channels. Placing location information on other channels allows the mobile station to be redirected to a control channel when it reads one of these other channels. Similarly, by placing information describing the location of a control channel in a message associated with handoff, a mobile station avoids the necessity of having to relocate a new control channel associated with the base station to which the mobile has been handed off.

  • Patent number: 6134438
Abstract: A method and system for providing support of local control functionality in a mobile telecommunications system independently of mobile station roaming status is provided. In the invention, upon receiving a registration access message a visited system accesses a database and determines whether the registering mobile station supports local control features supported by the system. If the mobile station and system support common local control features the system returns a local control registration confirmation message in place of the normal system registration confirmation message. The local control registration confirmation message confirms registration and also serves as an indication to the mobile station that the mobile station and system support common local control features. The mobile station and system may now function accordingly to allow use of the common local control features.

  • Patent number: 6097937
Abstract: A system and method for determining a charge rate for a call from a mobile station in a cellular telecommunications network in which a public system operates a macrocell which overlays a microcell operated by a private system. The private system reports whether it is operating normally to a mobile switching center (MSC) in the public system. The MSC sends a charging record to a billing center and includes a private system status indication (PSSI) which indicates whether the private system is operating normally. The charging record also includes an identity of the mobile station (MSID) and an identity of the cell where the call is placed (CELLID). The billing center determines from the MSID whether the mobile station belongs to the private system, determines from the CELLID which cell the call was placed in, and determines from the PSSI whether the private system is operating normally.

  • Patent number: 5978677
Abstract: Responsive to receipt at an originating switching node of an incoming call, a location request (send routing) message is sent to the home location register for the called mobile station. A routing request (provide roaming) message is then sent from the home location register to the switching node identified by the home location register as currently serving the called mobile station. The serving switching node then sends a routing number request message to the base station controller currently serving the called mobile station. The base station controller then assigns an appropriate one of its routing numbers, and responds back to the originating switching node via the home location register and the visited switching node with the assigned routing number. The assigned routing number is then used to establish a trunk connection between the originating switching node and the base station controller for purposes of effectuating call delivery.

  • Patent number: 5920814
Abstract: A system and method of managing Temporary Mobile Station Identity (TMSI) parameters in a radio telecommunications network having a first mobile switching center (MSC), a second MSC, and a mobile station operating initially in a service area of the first MSC. A first Validity Area Parameter (VAP) is transmitted from the first MSC and a second VAP is transmitted from the second MSC. The first MSC then assigns a first TMSI to the mobile station, and utilizes the first TMSI to identify the mobile station while the mobile station operates within the service area of the first MSC. The mobile station then determines whether it is receiving the second VAP, and invalidates the first TMSI upon determining that the mobile station is receiving the second VAP. The mobile station then registers in the second MSC utilizing the mobile station's Mobile Identification Number (MIN).

  • Patent number: 5915221
Abstract: A method and system for neighbor cell list creation and verification in a telecommunications system is provided. Over a period of time measurements are performed on signals transmitted and received on measurement channels of cells neighboring the cell for which a neighbor cell list is being created. The results of the signal measurements are used to create an ordered list of the measurement channels on which the measurements were done. A neighbor cell list containing a desired number of cells is then created by placing a certain number of cells having the most interfered measurement channels in the neighbor cell list. The invention also presents a method and system for verifying an existing neighbor cell list. In the method and system measurements are performed on measurement channels of neighbor cells over a period of time. Periodically the measurement results are checked to determine if cells should be added to or deleted from the existing neighbor cell list.
