  • Patent number: 7691085
Abstract: A syringe interface includes a top opening into which a syringe can be loaded, a first retaining member positioned on one side of the opening and a second retaining member positioned on a second side of the opening. The first retaining member and the second retaining member abut a forward facing abutment surface of a syringe flange on the syringe generally symmetrically. The syringe interface further includes a cradle, at least one engagement member to abut a forward facing abutment surface of a syringe flange, and a carriage slidably disposed within the cradle. The carriage includes a connector to form a releasable connection with a plunger or plunger extension of the syringe and a drive member of the injector. The connector includes a plurality of flexing capture members that flex radially outward to connect to a flange on the rear of the plunger or plunger extension of the syringe when the carriage is moved forward within the syringe interface.

  • Patent number: 7553294
Abstract: Embodiments of an injector, syringe, syringe interface, syringe adapter, and piston/plunger assembly for an injector (of contrast medium, for example) are described. Preferably, the syringe is adapted to engage a syringe interface mechanism such that the syringe may be connected to an injector without regard to any particular orientation of the syringe to the injector or to the piston/plunger assembly. The injector piston or drive member includes a sensing pin positioned at a forward end thereof to sense contact with the syringe plunger during advancement of the piston or drive member to contact the plunger. The piston can be advanced automatically upon connection of, for example, the syringe to the injector, or piston advance can be automated to occur after operator initiation. The injector may include or be adapted to accommodate two syringes, which for example provide for simultaneous injection of fluid into separate injection sites on a patient.

  • Patent number: 7192416
Abstract: The fluid injection apparatus includes a syringe, an injector, and a pressure jacket. The syringe has a cylindrical body with an injection section at a distal end and a plurality of outward extending retaining flanges at a proximal end. The injector has an injector housing defining a central opening and an injector drive piston extendable through the central opening for imparting motive forces to a syringe plunger disposed within the syringe. The pressure jacket secures the syringe during an injection procedure. The pressure jacket has a wall defining a plurality of longitudinally extending grooves in an inner surface thereof configured to receive the retaining flanges of the syringe. The grooves cooperate with a plurality of transversely extending slots defined in the inner surface of the pressure jacket wall. The engagement of the retaining flanges in the slots via the grooves secures the syringe in the pressure jacket.

  • Patent number: 6743205
Abstract: An adapter includes a syringe carrier adapted to seat at least a portion of the syringe. The syringe carrier includes at least one rearward facing abutment member to abut at least one forward facing surface on a syringe. The syringe carrier includes an opening therein to allow a drive member of an injector to communicate forward force to the plunger through abutment without connective engagement between the drive member and the plunger. The adapter further includes a releasable mounting mechanism positioned to the rear of the syringe carrier to mount the adapter in a desired position relative to the front wall of the injector.

  • Patent number: 6716195
Abstract: An adapter for releasably attaching a syringe to an injector includes a first section and a second section connected about a hinge axis that is generally perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the adapter. The first section and the second section are rotatable about the hinge axis between an open position to allow loading of the syringe into the adapter from a position to the rear of the hinge axis and a closed position to retain the syringe therein. The hinge axis is preferably off-center from the longitudinal axis of the adapter and the adapter further includes a releasable mounting mechanism positioned on a rearward end of the adapter to mount the adapter in a desired position relative to the front wall of the injector.

  • Patent number: 6673033
Abstract: An injector for use in injecting a fluid in a medical injection procedure includes a drive mechanism to pressurize the fluid; a sensor to measure a variable that is proportional to fluid pressure (that is, a direct or indirect measurement of fluid pressure); and a pressure monitor (for example, including hardwired circuitry and/or software) in communication with the sensor and the drive mechanism to stop the injection procedure when the sensor measures a value of the variable that corresponds to a pressure hazard limit. Preferably, the pressure monitor further limits power input to the drive mechanism to a power limit once the variable reaches a value that corresponds to a power limiting pressure that is below the pressure hazard limit.
