  • Patent number: 8648862
Abstract: A method, system and computer readable media relating to automatically adjusting a graphics feature to compensate for a predetermined resolution limit. The method generally relates to automatically identifying, within a selected area of a graphics file, one or more portions of at least one graphics feature meeting predetermined criteria for adjustment, including criteria for defining a thin portion having a thickness less than the resolution limit. The method then automatically modifies only the identified one or more portions to have an adjusted thickness greater than the initial thickness. Additional criteria may be used to restrict which thin portions of the feature are actually modified.

  • Patent number: 7881818
Abstract: A method to aid designing flexible packaging for wrapping around a solid object and finalizing the packaging. The method includes accepting a description of the surface of a sheet of packaging material after wrapping around the solid object and finalizing, using a mapping of points in the 2D plane of the sheet of the packaging material to the corresponding points in the 3D surface of the wrapped and finalized packaging. The method further includes displaying the surface of the wrapped and finalized packaging or displaying graphic elements on the surface of wrapped and finalized packaging. A version includes pre-distorting graphics to correct for any distortions to graphics that occur during the wrapping and finalizing process, and generating press-ready graphics from the pre-distorted graphics for printing onto the surface of the sheet of packaging material.

  • Patent number: 7346408
Abstract: A method and a carrier medium carrying code to execute a method of designing a carton. The method includes accepting carton structural information, forming a 2D unfolded model of the substrate that when cut and folded forms the carton, and forming a 3D model of the carton. The method further includes displaying a 2D view of the unfolded carton design, and a perspective view of the 3D model. A user has the ability to manipulate the view of the 3D model, and also to select a flap of the carton on perspective view. As a result of the selecting, the method modifies the 2D unfolded view to be of the selected flap shown in an orientation suitable for designing the selected flap. The user designs the flap and the method accepts the design. The method includes modifying the perspective view of the 3D model to include any changes made in the design.

  • Patent number: 5889932
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for improving computer aided graphical design with a design rule checker. A preferred embodiment of the invention is a computer program which when loaded in a computer checks a graphical design for conformity to a set of graphical design rules such as printability rules, legal packaging rules, company style rules, and aesthetic rules. The program may be operated in an interactive mode to provide feedback while a design is being created, or in a batch mode after the design is completed. Specific rules can be customized and adapted for appropriate printing processes, company styles, legal rules, and aesthetics.

  • Patent number: 5872573
Abstract: A method and system for processing a set of graphical data representing a page to enhance the legibility of text in the page. The method and system select text to be enhanced from the set of graphical data, text in this context including any logos and other graphical objects selected for enhancement; create raw edging data which includes enhancing edges in an enhancing color for the text to be enhanced; form an edging clip mask which includes areas on the page where the raw edging data is to be visible; and clip the raw edging data with the edging clip mask. When the page includes CT images, the areas on the page where the raw edging data is to be visible include the union of the regions of the page that have CT images, excluding parts of the page not covered by CT images that are ghosted, have a stroke attribute, have a solid fill attribute, or have a vignetted fill attribute.
