  • Patent number: 4360751
Abstract: A unitary fan and drive assembly is formed by means of a disc-shaped plate having a set of fan blades disposed along the periphery of the plate. A compact shape is provided by forming the drive with a rotatable member that is nested within a central recess of the plate. An electric drive is conveniently implemented by an electric motor wherein the rotatable motor member has fan blades disposed along the periphery and wherein the stationary motor member includes a low-profile annular array enclosing an assembly for electrically energizing the motor.

  • Patent number: 4228384
Abstract: A bidirectional, axial air gap, brushless, printed circuit DC motor having a stationary, low inductance armature bonded to the motor frame and having a plurality of rotating permanent magnets. Electro-optical sensing is employed which produces a unique digital representation of the magnet position. The digital output of the electro-optical sensor is decoded and, using brush substitution techniques, is used to selectively and progressively energize fields in the armature winding ahead of the rotating magnets. Both single field per pole and multiple field per pole commutation techniques are taught. The armature may be cut so as to produce several independent coils which may be combined in various ways, depending on the application.

  • Patent number: 4072874
Abstract: An improved direct drive for turntables having a disk-shaped armature integrally coupled to the turntable and concentrically arranged about the shaft of the turntable for causing rotation of the turntable during the application of current to the disk-shaped armature. Advantageously, when such an arrangement is used with audio turntables a disk changer mechanism can be readily accommodated in the turntable.

  • Patent number: 4035697
Abstract: A motor driven magnetically coupled variable capacitor including a follower magnet arranged internally of the capacitor and fixedly coupled to a rotatable shaft, a follower magnet drive magnetically coupled to the follower magnet for rotating the follower magnet and therefore the rotatalbe shaft, a plurality of stationary capacitive elements fixedly mounted at one end of the capacitor, and a plurality of movable capacitive elements mechanically coupled to the rotatable shaft for axial movement therealong in response to rotation of the rotatable shaft by the follower magnet. The movable capacitive elements coacting with the stationary capacitive elements to vary the capacitance of the capacitor in response to activation of the follower magnet drive.
