  • Patent number: 10913999
Abstract: A box coating apparatus for coating of substrates comprises a vacuum chamber which contains an evaporation source. A substrate holder is disposed vis-à-vis to the evaporation source so that evaporated material can impinge on substrates held by the substrate holder. Besides the evaporation source and the substrate holder, at least one further functional component is provided, namely a Meissner trap and/or a high vacuum valve mechanism, to which a shield arrangement is assigned to prevent evaporated material from impinging on said component. This shield arrangement has a shutter portion which can be moved from a closed shielding position in which it covers a passageway through the shield arrangement and serves to shield said component, to an open pumping position in which it substantially clears the passageway to allow essentially free passage for gases and vapor, and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 9529123
Abstract: A lens blank is proposed, having a first face, an opposite, second face, and an edge inbetween, the first face possessing a final curvature and being coated, in this order, with an antireflection coating, a top coating, and a temporary grip coating. The antireflection coating has a stack of alternating antireflection layers with an outermost layer, whereas the top coating is selected from a group including hydrophobic, oleophobic and dirt repelling coatings. The temporary grip coating and the outermost layer of the antireflection coating are made from one and the same coating material. In this way the temporary grip coating effectively serves to provide sufficient adhesion to the blocking material on the block piece in the processing steps, and can easily be removed from the processed lens upon deblocking without degrading the repelling properties of the top coating.

  • Patent number: 8905388
Abstract: A block piece for holding a spectacle lens blank has a basic body with a workpiece mounting face portion against which the workpiece can be blocked with a blocking material, and a clamping portion via which the blocked workpiece can be fixed in a machine/apparatus for processing it. The basic body is made substantially of a material having a defined low water absorption and/or is sealed to at least reduce outgassing of water moisture under vacuum conditions, so that the block piece can be used also in vacuum coating processes. Alternatively or in addition, the clamping portion is constructed to be clamped by forces directed essentially perpendicular to the radial direction to cancel out each other and not deform the basic body, and/or the workpiece mounting face portion is provided with a predetermined amount of prism.

  • Patent number: 8784160
Abstract: A method for manufacturing spectacle lenses includes the steps of: providing a lets blank having a first face that possesses a final curvature and is coated with an antireflection coating as an outer layer, a second face, and an edge; blocking with a blocking material the lens blank with its first face on a block piece; processing the blocked lens blank on the second face and to obtain a processed lens; deblocking the processed lens from the block piece; and applying on top of the first face antireflection coating of the processed lens a top coating selected from at least one of hydrophobic, oleophobic or dust repelling coatings.

  • Patent number: 7820018
Abstract: A process and apparatus for applying an optical coating to a substrate, wherein a transition layer 12, which is used to match mechanical properties of a substrate 10 to mechanical properties of a layer system 16 to be applied upon the transition layer 12, is deposited on a front surface 20 of the substrate 10. For this purpose, during a sputtering process carried out in a vacuum chamber 18, reaction products 14 are incorporated at least virtually exclusively in the transition layer 12 on the substrate. This prevents other surfaces of the vacuum chamber 18 and the rear side 34 of the substrate 10 from being contaminated with the reaction products 14 and/or their precursors.

  • Publication number: 20100003509
Abstract: In the method according to the invention for coating a plastic substrate with a transition layer, which particularly enables an improved bond of the optical functional layer system arranged above said transition layer to the plastic substrate lying underneath said transition layer, a polymerizable liquid is applied to a substrate surface of the plastic substrate to be coated, and said liquid is polymerized at that location, by irradiation with ultraviolet light, into a bonding agent which forms the transition layer. For this process, the plastic substrate passes consecutively through a high-pressure cleaning device (24), a spin-coating device (26), a UV-irradiation device (28), and a coating device (32) for applying the optical functional layer system.

  • Patent number: 6878243
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing an optically effective system of layers on a substrate, such as a lens for use in an optical device. A plasma supported sputter deposition process is employed which, for the purpose of reducing damage to the rear side (1b) first applies a protective layer (2) to the rear side and then applies a system of layers (3) on the front side (1a) of the substrate (1). The apparatus includes an evacuable sputter chamber and a substrate holder (5) with receiving elements (6) for the substrates, and the receiving elements are mounted to permit rotation about two mutually perpendicular axes.
