  • Publication number: 20140360935
Abstract: For treatment of ballast water, on uptake of ballast water into a ship, equilibrium peracetic acid and catalase are added to the ballast water, wherein equilibrium peracetic acid is added in an amount of from 5 to 50 mg/l peracetic acid and catalase is added in an amount which within 120 h breaks down the content of the hydrogen peroxide introduced with the equilibrium peracetic acid to less than 2 mg/l in the ballast water. For treating the ballast water, a device is suitable that comprises a ballast water tank, a conduit for filling the ballast water tank and a conduit for emptying the ballast water tank, wherein metering devices for equilibrium peracetic acid and catalase are connected to the conduit for filling the ballast water tank, and a metering device for a reducing agent is connected to the conduit for emptying the ballast water tank.

  • Publication number: 20130327718
Abstract: A device comprising a measuring device for determining the flow rate of a water stream, a measuring device for determining the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in the water stream, a measuring device for determining the concentration of peracetic acid in the water stream, a metering device for metering a reducing agent into the water stream downstream of the measuring devices for the concentrations, and a control device which, from the flow rate of the water stream, the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in the water stream and the concentration of peracetic acid in the water stream, calculates an amount of reducing agent for reducing the content of hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid to a desired value and actuates the metering device for metering the reducing agent, makes possible reliable reduction of the content of hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid in a water stream.

  • Patent number: 8520193
Abstract: Method for irradiating granules, in the case of which the granules are arranged in a sample container (2) and are irradiated with an irradiation lamp (3), the granules being periodically mixed during the irradiation such that different surfaces of the granules are irradiated. It is preferred to make use for the irradiation of a device which comprises a. at least one irradiation lamp (3), and b. at least one sample container (2) for the granules to be irradiated, the sample container being connected to a drive so that the sample container can be moved during the irradiation and the granules can be mixed.

  • Publication number: 20110272601
Abstract: Rapid test to ascertain the effect of irradiation on the abrasion of a granule, in which i.) the abrasion of the granule is determined before the irradiation, ii.) the granule is irradiated, iii.) the abrasion of the irradiated granule is determined, characterized in that, the abrasion is determined by a) grinding the granule in a cutting mill, b) subjecting the ground product to a screening analysis and c) comparing the result of the screening analysis with at least one reference value, in order to classify the abrasion of the granule, the granule is irradiated by arranging a plurality of granule particles in a sample container (2) and irradiating them with an irradiation lamp (3), the granule particles being periodically blended during the irradiation so that different surfaces of the granule particles are irradiated.
