  • Publication number: 20050024001
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a locomotive comprising energy storage units, such as batteries, a prime energy source, such as a diesel engine, and an energy conversion device, such as a generator. The locomotive comprises one or more of the following features: a separate chopper circuit for each traction motor and a controller operable to control separately and independently each axle/traction motor.

  • Patent number: 4900944
Abstract: A booster unit for diesel electric locomotive having a frame-mounted diesel engine, a main traction generator and a series of traction motors connected to said generators is disclosed. It is comprised of a gas turbine mounted on the frame adjacent to the diesel engine, a high speed alternator connected directly with the turbine and a series of rectifiers connected at the output of the high speed alternator. The alternator and rectifiers form a high speed electric generator. A load control means connected at the output of the alternator is provided for controlling the output power thereof. The high speed generator is connected in parallel with the main traction generator such that the traction motors can be supplied with extra electrical power when required.

  • Patent number: 4601141
Abstract: An apparatus for expanding a building structure in which the roof structure of an existing building is raised by a plurality of column assemblies, each including an outer section and at least one inner section. A jack assembly is provided which raises each inner section into an extended position relative to its corresponding outer section. A clamping device is mounted on each jack assembly for gripping the inner section and when the extended position is reached the corresponding sections are secured with the clamping device automatically releasing upon downward movement of the jack assembly.

  • Patent number: 4506624
Abstract: A trowel for smoothing mortar coated on the interior wall of a pipe, including an elastic member for receiving pressurized air and inflating to a diameter less than the interior of the pipe. A blade assembly is connected to and extends from the elastic member, and defines an outer circular surface substantially corresponding to the coated interior diameter of the pipe for engaging and smoothing said mortar. The blade assembly is constructed and arranged to accommodate variances in the inner diameter of the pipeline.

  • Patent number: 4457326
Abstract: A system for providing temporary water service between a water main and one or more locations normally connected to the main in which a pipeline is provided above ground and has a supply section and a return section which are connected to the main. Each of the locations are connected between the supply section and the return section. The water is circulated from said supply section, through said location and to said return section in response to the ambient temperature dropping below a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4300792
Abstract: A pipe assembly in which a plurality of abutting pipe sections are connected together by a clamp assembly. Each pipe section has a pair of diametrically opposed slots in its outer surface which are spaced a predetermined distance from its end. A support sleeve is inserted within the end portions of each pipe section and has a circumferential groove formed therein in axial alignment with the slots. The clamp assembly extends over the corresponding end portions of the adjacent pipe sections and includes two shoulder portions spaced apart a distance corresponding to the distance between the respective slots of adjacent pipe sections so that portions of each shoulder extend in a corresponding pair of slots.
