  • Patent number: 9894807
Abstract: An apparatus is provided which includes a changeable cover assembly sized to cover, at least in part, an air outlet side of an electronics rack. The cover assembly, when positioned at the air outlet side of the rack, redirects and vents airflow egressing from the air outlet side. The cover assembly includes a frame and at least one vent cover. The frame has at least one opening through which air egressing from the electronics rack passes, and the vent cover(s) is coupled to the frame and overlies, at least in part, the opening(s) in the frame to facilitate redirecting and venting the air passing through the frame. The at least one vent cover is changeable to change a direction of the vented air. For instance, the vent cover(s) may be reversible, or otherwise adjustable or changeable, to change the direction of vented air egressing from the cover assembly.

  • Patent number: 7715215
Abstract: Control of an AC-to-DC power supply assembly fed by a three-phase AC source is provided by: determining whether the power supply assembly includes greater than three single-phase power regulators feeding a common load, with multiple regulators being connected in parallel across a common phase of the AC source, and if so, summing currents provided by the regulators to the common load; and ascertaining whether the summed current is less than a predefined threshold, and if yes, operating the power supply assembly in a line balance mode to maintain power drawn on the phases of the AC source in balance, and if greater than the predefined threshold, operating the power supply assembly in a maximize power mode wherein power is provided to the common load without maintaining power drawn on the phases of the AC source in balance.

  • Patent number: 7643307
Abstract: A data processing system and method providing a jumper which provides standby power from a redundant power supply to one of at least two critical functions in a frame having bays for holding at least two nodes. The redundant power supply supplying power to one of the nodes in the frame and one of the critical functions. A jumper is slidably engageable in the frame in place of one of the nodes. The jumper, when engaged in the frame, transfers power from the redundant power supply to the other of the critical functions. The jumper is included in a jumper book of an airblock which includes passive airblock books. Mechanical keys on the passive airblock books prevent the removal of the jumper book until after the passive airblock books are removed.

  • Patent number: 7216051
Abstract: A technique for testing an electronics assembly for a power short circuit is provided. The technique includes pre-characterizing power off resistance of an electronic component(s) of a first packaging level from at least one power boundary of the electronic component(s). The characterizing of the power off resistance occurs prior to placement of the electronic component(s) into an electronics assembly of a higher packaging level. The technique further includes determining actual power off resistance of the electronics component(s) after placement thereof into the electronics assembly, with the actual power off resistance being determined from the at least one power boundary. Thereafter, the actual power off resistance of the electronic component(s) in the electronics assembly is compared with the pre-characterized power off resistance of the at least one electronic component(s), and a determination is made therefrom whether a power short circuit exists within the electronics assembly.

  • Patent number: 6504208
Abstract: A semiconductor device, full bridge converter employing the same, and methods of fabrication thereof are provided. The device includes a vertical MOSFET having a parasitic body diode at a junction face between a body region and a semiconductor layer thereof. The parasitic body diode is suppressed by having no direct electrical connection to the body region, resulting in the parasitic body diode being open-circuited within the MOSFET. Co-packaged with the MOSFET is a separate bypass diode connected across a source and a drain of the MOSFET. The bypass diode functions to clamp the voltage across the MOSFET without employing the parasitic, electrically isolated body diode of the MOSFET.
