  • Patent number: 4101296
Abstract: An ozone decomposition system wherein moist ozone-containing gas is contacted with a bed of active zeolite molecular sieve particles for converting ozone, which comprises means for reactivating the bed by directly applying to the zeolite particles a high-voltage low-frequency electrical field having sufficient potential gradient to separate sorbed moisture as molecular water.

  • Patent number: 4094652
Abstract: A drying system wherein fluid is contacted with a bed of dielectric absorbent particles, preferably zeolite molecular sieve particles, to sorb an adsorbable component such as water, from the fluid. The improved system includes means for reactivating the moisture saturated bed by directly applying to the zeolite particles a high voltage electrical field having sufficient potential gradient (e.g., 0.2 to 500 Kv/cm) to separate substantially all of the sorbed moisture as molecular water. Direct current or low frequency (0-10.sup.3 H.sub.z) is employed. In the preferred embodiments the molecular sieve bed comprises synthetic crystalline metal alumino silicate zeolite particles such as powder having an average particle size of about 1 .mu. to 10 .mu. or larger 4 to 12 mesh bonded particles (e.g. 1000 .mu. to 5000 .mu.). The electro-desorption process is advantageous in that the amount of time and energy consumed in regenerating the bed is less than that required for conventional regeneration procedures.

  • Patent number: 4038050
Abstract: A fluid drying system comprising a molecular sieve bed of crystalline metal aluminosilicate zeolite particles for removing water from a moisture-laden process stream. The improved apparatus and methods provides means for measuring electrical conductivity of the zeolite particles and generating a signal representative of sorbed water content. Means responsive to the signal is provided for interrupting process fluid flow through the bed at a predetermined bed water content. In the preferred embodiments a high voltage is imposed across the bed for regenerating the bed to separate sorbed water from the zeolite particles.

  • Patent number: 4038165
Abstract: Corona discharge reactions are efficiently conducted by passing a reactant gas through a corona discharge gap in which pulsed electrical energy is dissipated to accelerate electrons to a productive energy level, and eliminating gas ions from the gap to minimize non-productive energizing of the ions prior to additional corona discharge. In one preferred practice of the process a selective ion neutralization potential is applied to eliminate the non-productive gas ions between corona pulses. In other preferred practices, a reactant gas which is exposed to corona is removed from the corona zone after limited exposure to corona to permit recombination of the heavy gas ions prior to additional exposure to corona and/or an ion neutralizing component is added to the reactant gas stream.

  • Patent number: 4027169
Abstract: A corona generator having a high voltage, high frequency power supply wherein a plurality of transient commutated silicon controlled rectifiers (SCR's) are driven in series. The use of series connected unmatched SCR's without associated voltage equalization means increases the duration of the reverse commutation pulse and hence, permits higher switching frequency.

  • Patent number: 4016060
Abstract: Corona induced chemical reactions are conducted in a corona discharge zone in which narrow high voltage pulses are applied along with a relatively low voltage bias potential. It is found that for many corona discharge reactions, such as the conversion of oxygen to ozone, the present method increases the electrical efficiency of the reaction.

  • Patent number: 4002921
Abstract: A solid state power supply circuit for a corona generator type device wherein two alternately fired load commutated SCR (Silicon Controlled Rectifier) means conduct in opposite directions through the primary winding of a power transformer. Each SCR means is series connected to a separate DC power source and isolated from the other SCR means by means of diodes. A corona generator is connected to the secondary of the power transformer and receives symmetrical, bipolar power pulses from the power supply circuit.
