  • Patent number: 5470508
Abstract: A three part cleaning composition uses C.sub.6 -C.sub.20 alkyl substituted lactam as a cleaning agent, an anionic surfactant and water to solubilize and remove oil or grease from hard surfaces. The lactam is provided in a ratio, relative to surfactant of 5-0.1 to 5-3.0, more preferably 5-0.1 to 5-1.0. The composition is surprisingly effective in forming micro-emulsions with the oil or grease and maintaining the emulsions for ease in disposal. Using an aqueous solution including C.sub.6 -C.sub.20 alkyl substituted lactam provides a low volatility, non-flammable degreasing solution, which is highly effective and biodegradable.

  • Patent number: 5409639
Abstract: A hardwood floor cleaner composition is provided which is non-tacky, and cleans and shines in one-step, is free of silicones, does not dull the wood surface. The composition comprises (a) about 0.1-5%, preferably 0.2-2%, of a C.sub.6 -C.sub.24 alkyl pyrrolidone, preferably N-octyl-pyrrolidone; (b) about 0.1-5%, preferably 0.2-1%, of an anionic or nonionic surfactant, preferably sodium dodecyl sulfate; (c) about 1-5%, preferably 2-4%, of a shine booster, preferably a vinylpyrrolidone copolymer, such as vinylpyrrolidone-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (Gafquat.RTM. 755-N - ISP); and (d) about 0.5-2%, preferably 0.8-1.5%, of a film-former, for example, an acrylic emulsion, preferably Esi-Cryl.RTM. 405 (Emulsion Systems Inc.), which is 2-methyl-2-propenoic acid, copolymer with ethyl-2-propenoate, methyl-2-methyl propenoate and 2-propenoic acid, and (e) about 85-95%, preferably 88-93%, of water, or an alcohol, or mixtures thereof, by weight of the composition.

  • Patent number: 5334331
Abstract: This invention is directed to an environmentally safe, water soluble stripping composition comprising between about 30 and about 98.5 wt. % N-methylpyrrolidone or a 10/90 to 90/10 mixture of N-methylpyrrolidone and gamma-butyrolactone and between about 0.1 and about 5 wt. % cyclomethicone. The invention also concerns the use of this composition in a process for stripping organic coatings such as paints, resins, varnishes and shellac from substrates.

  • Patent number: 5215675
Abstract: This invention is directed to an environmentally safe, water soluble stripping composition which contains a solution of water, a water soluble ester containing from 4 to 10 carbon atoms and an amount of hydrogen peroxide or compounds which generate hydrogen peroxide in situ; which peroxide concentration is not in excess of 30 wt. % of the water/ester composition. • Patent number: 5064557
Abstract: A resin cleaner composition is provided herein for use as a cleaning solvent to remove cured, partially cured and uncured polyester or vinyl ester resin containing a free radical polymerization initiator from resin fabrication tools. The composition is characterized by the presence therein of a free radical inhibitor which suppresses the rate of free radical polymerization. Thereby the resin can be loaded in increased amounts in the composition without an accompanying increase in polymerization of the resin.
