  • Patent number: 4766497
Abstract: A cable-ready television receiver including a tuner switchable between cable and off-air signals has an LC trap tuned to the audio carrier frequency coupled between the tuner and a SAW IF amplifier. The trap includes a varactor diode that, when it exhibits a large capacitance, effectively disables the trap. This occurs when the receiver is used with cable signals. In the event the receiver is used for off-air signals, the voltage applied to the varactor diode causes it to exhibit a much smaller capacitance which effectively enables the trap.

    Assignee: Zenith Electronics Corporation
Inventors: Frank G. Banach, James G. Haerle, David S. Tait
  • Patent number: 4547805
Abstract: An AFC circuit for a television receiver capable of unambiguous operation with substantially offset signal frequencies has a response characteristic defined by a positive portion intermediate a pair of substantially equally sized negative portions. The circuit includes a multiplier with an unbalanced coupling between the limiter and the discriminator which has a single adjustable tuned circuit nominally tuned to 45.75 MHz.

  • Patent number: 4484222
Abstract: A color television receiver includes a surface acoustic wave intermediate frequency amplifier and a gain block feeding a synchronous detector. A non-adjustable solid state (piezonator) sound carrier trap is coupled between the gain block and the synchronous detector by impedance matching capacitors.
