  • Patent number: 4946939
Abstract: High purity polyether polyol compositions such as polyethylene glycol are made having small amounts of impurities such as oligomers of active hydrogen compounds with alkylene oxides. The high purity is achieved by subjecting the polyether polyol compositions to membrane filtration to get less than about 10 parts per million of the low molecular weight oligomers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 30, 1989
Date of Patent: August 7, 1990
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Frank H. Murphy, Robert T. Jernigan, Jeff G. Grierson, Wayne G. Wessels
  • Patent number: 4865831
Abstract: The zinc and ammonia values in solutions containing zinc chloride or zinc monoammine chloride and ammonium chloride can be recovered by adding ammonia to a pH of about 5.5 to about 8.5 and separating the precipitated zinc diammine chloride from the residual aqueous solution of ammonium chloride. The zinc diammine chloride can be used as is or further converted to anhydrous zinc chloride and ammonia and the aqueous solution of ammonium chloride can be used as is or basified to recover the ammonia.

Date of Patent: September 12, 1989
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Frank H. Murphy, Matt W. Oleksy
  • Patent number: 4804764
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, 2,3,5,6-tetrachloropyridine is advantageously prepared by contacting pentachloropyridine in a solvent selected from the group consisting of alkylnitriles, water, alkylsulfoxides, tetramethylsulfone, C-1 to C-5 alcohols, alkyl carbonates and mixtures thereof, in the presence of an ammonium salt of an organic or inorganic acid with about 0.7 to about 1.1 g atoms of zinc per mole of pentachloropyridine.

  • Patent number: 4339642
Abstract: The movable arm of a circuit breaker provides at its lower extremity a backing surface against which a copper carrier is clipped. A movable contact is affixed to the exposed surface of the carrier beyond the backing surface, such that current flow between the contact and a flexible, conductive braid, also affixed to the carrier, is conducted through the carrier rather than the arm which may then be fashioned from a less expensive, relatively low conductivity material such as steel.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 19, 1981
Date of Patent: July 13, 1982
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Raymond K. Seymour, Frank H. Murphy, Lelio C. Vergnano
  • Patent number: 4297663
Abstract: Various circuit breaker accessories, such as a shunt trip, an undervoltage release, an auxiliary switch, and a bell alarm, are individually packaged in a standardized molded insulative accessory case for ultimate factory or even field installation in a molded case, automatic power circuit breaker.
