  • Publication number: 20050112230
Abstract: A metal workpiece is formed of a pre-manufactured lower part and an upper piece which is placed thereon using a metal powder sintering process, preferably laser sintering. The lower part is a partial workpiece which is made of a solid piece of metal shaped by machining, forming a ready-to-use workpiece in conjunction with the upper part.

  • Publication number: 20040217095
Abstract: In a method for producing three-dimensional work pieces in a laser material machining unit or a stereolithography unit either a layered sintered material or a pasty material is applied on a support from a supply device. The material is heated by laser irradiation area by area, such that the constituents of the sintered material or pasty material join in layers to form the work piece by at least partial melting, depending on the irradiated areas. The laser irradiation is carried out with a first energy density and/or a first focus diameter. During or after the work piece production process, areas of the work piece are either melted by laser with an increase in energy density or removed.

  • Publication number: 20040099996
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a shaped article, in particular a stereolithographic or a selective laser sintering process, uses radiation energy. A material made of a powder is deposited layer-by-layer onto a surface and is hardened by an application of radiation energy, in tracks, in which the radiation energy impinges the layer to be hardened. The powder in each track is melted entirely or at least partially. Parallel first tracks are applied next to one another at a lateral spacing and without lateral overlap with neighboring first parallel tracks, and second tracks of radiation energy intersecting with the first tracks are applied in order to ensure the hardening of the shaped article. Powder at the intersection points of the first and second tracks is melted at least partially.

  • Publication number: 20040094728
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for sintering, removing material and/or labeling by means of electromagnetically bundled radiation, especially a laser sintering machine and/or a laser surface-processing machine. The device comprises a construction space (3) which is accommodated in a machine housing (2) and in which the following are provided: a scanner (4), into which the beam (5) of a sintering laser (6) is coupled; a vertically displaceable workpiece platform (7); and a material supply device comprising a coater for supplying sintering material in powder, paste or liquid form to the process area above the workpiece platform, from a supply container. Said scanner (4) is arranged on a scanner support (8) which can be displaced by a motor over the workpiece platform (7) in the manner of a cross-slide.

Said device comprises a construction space (3) which is accommodated in a machine housing (2) and in or above which the following are located: a light-guiding device, especially a scanner (4), into which the beam of a sintering energy source is coupled; a vertically displaceable workpiece platform (7); and a material supply device comprising a coater (9) for supplying sintering material from a supply container (8) to the process area above the workpiece platform (7). Said workpiece platform (7) is a changeable element which can be removed from the construction space (3).

  • Patent number: 6702926
Abstract: A wire section for forming a multi-ply fiber web. The wire section includes a first belt which advances a first fiber ply toward a couch roll defining a combining section. A twin-wire zone of the wire section includes first and second wires between which a second fiber ply is initially formed in a gap former. The second wire separates from the first wire and then the first wire supporting the second fiber ply meets the first belt supporting the first fiber ply at the couch roll of the combining section to form the multi-ply fiber web. The twin-wire part is arranged upstream of the combining section along the running direction of the first belt. The second fiber ply runs on the first wire into the combining section at an angle less than 90° with respect to the belt entering the combining section. The path of the wires from the forming roll to the combining section is disclosed. A suction box or arrangement holds the second fiber ply to the first wire when the first and second wires separate.
