Abstract: A fluid pump having a pump body defining a pump cavity and a pump shaft rotatable on a bearing in the cavity, wherein the pump cavity contains a seal in a closed chamber between the pump body and the shaft, and the cavity is characterized by a first zone for high pressure pump discharge fluid, a second zone for low pressure pump inlet fluid, and an interconnecting passage which supplies fluid from the high pressure zone to a third zone, which exists at an intermediate pressure surrounding the pump seal and discharges its fluid into the low pressure zone, the intermediate pressure being sufficient to prevent fluid boiling and cavitation by insuring that the pumped fluid does not exceed its vapor pressure point.

Abstract: A rotating seal body for a face type seal having a rotor portion secured on and rotatable with a shaft and a stator portion for securement in a housing and sealing faces on each of the portions in rubbing abutment, wherein the seal has thermally conductive components providing a heat flow path from the rotor face through the stator portion to the housing for dissipating heat of friction generated between the rubbing faces. The seal may be unitized by a lip on the rotor portion which interconnects and is engaged with the stator portion for connecting the seal portions together and placing the faces in sealing position. A flexible membrane, which may be arranged on the rotatable shaft, and a spring element may be provided in the rotor portion to maintain the sealing faces in abutment during rotation of the shaft.

Abstract: A face seal cartridge assembly of predetermined working height tolerance for sealing a rotatable shaft in a fluid filled housing, wherein the face seal assembly comprises connected stator and rotor portions and one of these portions has an axial flexing membrane of resilient material secured therein for equalizing dynamic cyclical shaft motion.
