  • Patent number: 7509209
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for operation of a multiple fuel engine, which runs on a combination of two or more fuels. An electronic control unit (ECU) may be connected to the existing components of an engine system in order to control operation of the multiple fuel engine. The engine system may be mechanically governed or electronically controlled. The ECU inputs operating characteristics of the engine system, determines governing characteristics for multiple fuel operation based on the operating characteristics, and controls the amounts of fuel delivered to the engine based on the governing characteristics. In a preferred embodiment, a dual fuel engine operates using diesel as a first fuel and natural gas as a second fuel. The operating characteristics may include engine speed, throttle position, engine exhaust temperature, gas pressure of the second fuel, gas temperature of the second fuel, boost pressure of an intake manifold, or engine coolant temperature.

  • Patent number: 5370097
Abstract: A dual fuel control system (10) for use with an internal combustion engine (11) is disclosed which controls the flow of liquid fuel alone or in combination with a gaseous fuel. The system has a stored supply of gaseous fuel and a fuel metering actuator (22) which regulates the flow of the gaseous fuel to the engine. The system also has a stored supply of liquid fuel and a fuel control actuator (47) which regulates the flow of diesel fuel through the movement of the shutoff valve (31) of a diesel fuel pump (28). A controller (45) controls the actuation of the actuators in response to signals received from an accelerator sensor (37), an R.P.M. sensor (45) and an exhaust temperature sensor (41).

  • Patent number: 5103795
Abstract: An apparatus 10 for introducing a mixture of air and gaseous fuel into internal combustion engines has a housing 12 in communication with a supply of gaseous fuel that may be mounted to tubular intake ports 11 of the engine. The apparatus has a pair of control tubes 32 which adjustably extending into the housing to positions close to but spaced from the intake ports to form gaps therebetween. By repositioning the control tubes the size of these gaps may be altered to alter the air to gas mixture ratio.

  • Patent number: 4579147
Abstract: An exhaust valve for a diving suit includes a valve seating disc having a concave annular valve seat sealing surface adjacent its rim, and a flexible diaphragm sealingly disposed adjacent the sealing surface. An axially resilient sleeve is attached at its ends to the inlet portion of the housing and the seating disc. Axial compression of the sleeve moves the disc and diaphragm away from a normally contacting annular rim in the housing to permit air under pressure to exit the diving suit and flow radially between the sealing rim portion of the diaphragm and the sealing surface of the disc, then to exit the valve.

  • Patent number: 4479466
Abstract: A natural gas and air mixing device for allowing the combustion of a mixture of natural gas and air in a conventional internal combustion engine. The device includes a gas plenum which disperses natural gas through apertures into a mixing chamber, where the gas mixes with air drawn through passageways in an annular rim which is fitted over the air intake of a conventional carburetor. The construction of the device allows alternate operation of the engine with gasoline as the fuel and requires few alterations in the engine compartment.
