  • Patent number: 5473368
Abstract: An automated interactive surveillance device provides passive infrared surveillance of a predetermined area to determine if an intruder enters the area. When the passive infrared detectors detect such an intruder, the device acts to aim a camera and ultrasonic rangefinder in the appropriate direction. The rangefinder determines the precise distance from the device to the intruder, whereupon the camera is accurately focused, the focal length adjusted for a relatively narrow field of view providing good resolution at the selected distance, and the angular elevation of the camera is adjusted appropriately. The passive infrared detectors may cooperate with a program to determine an approximate size for the detected intruder, based upon the amount of heat detected and the range determined by the ultrasonic rangefinder, to thus determine whether or not a human threat exists.

  • Patent number: 5299971
Abstract: An automatic passive interactive tracking device is disclosed which provides for the detection of intruders with a single quadruplex stationary passive infrared sensor covering a relatively wide field of view. Alternatively, two dual sensors may be incorporated. The stationary sensor or sensors provides a signal to a microcontroller, which drives a stepper motor to rotate additional sensors with narrower fields of view to more precisely determine the exact bearing of the intruder. By incorporating appropriate analog to digital conversion and algorithms in the microcontroller, approximate range may also be determined. When the intruder has been verified by all of the sensors, a camera and/or light is activated to record the intruder. A number of the tracking devices may be linked together to cover a larger area, and may provide signals to a remotely located monitor and/or security post.

  • Patent number: 5083968
Abstract: An interactive toy is capable of detecting and tracking any nearby heat source such as a human body. This device can, in addition to tracking, move to interact with the heat source. The toy can either chase or move away from the heat source according to a set mode of operation. PIR sensors are mounted in a rotating head that is mounted in turn upon a wheeled, tracked or legged body that can move. The device further includes sensors to detect unheated objects in its path and will act to avoid hitting them. The PIR sensors have a limited field of view so as to prevent overlapping fields of view and are filtered or tuned to receive only a certain bandwidth or infrared radiation.

  • Patent number: 4930236
Abstract: An advertising and display device includes apparatus to provide automation so as to interact with persons in the area by means of passive infrared sensing devices. The advertising and display device may take the form of a rotating platform or representation of a being or animal, and may incorporate an audio message delivery system also activated by the physical proximity of persons detected by the infrared sensors. The sensing system may be remotely located to enable the advertising and display device to be placed within an enclosure such as a showroom window, etc., and the display platform may incorporate a photoelectric detector to temporarily stop the drive system when a person is in extremely close proximity in order to allow that person to more closely examine items located on the platform.

  • Patent number: 3948555
Abstract: A glider is provided which is designed for easy assembly and which may be easily collapsed for storage purposes. The glider includes a frame having a seat and back rest, and a pair of side members, each of which includes an arm rest or head rest portion, which side members are mounted on each end of the frame. An elongated roller support member is provided for each end of the frame and includes an upper track member and a lower track member, the upper track member including a substantially flat top wall and a pair of spaced substantially flat side walls extending from and connected at substantially right angles to the top wall. At least two wheels are rotatably mounted to and between the side walls of each of the upper track members. The lower track member includes a track portion substantially U-shape in cross-section and adapted to receive the wheels, and a floor engaging member.
