  • Patent number: 4597118
Abstract: A bed spring assembly and a supporting rectangular steel frame structure incorporating leg supports, the frame structure including cross beams which in certain embodiments are prestressed in tension or compression to obtain maximum load support without sagging and wherein the springs of the spring assembly are directly fastened to hooks or eyes formed on the cross beams. The invention also discloses round and square corner frame constructions and an attachment if the spring assembly upholstery to either metal frame by providing a hem with a wire threaded therein in the lower edge portion of the skirt of the fabric and pinning the edge portion about the wire to the metal frame or in another embodiment by providing flanges about the lower edge of the frame to which the fabric is clamped.

  • Patent number: 4276665
Abstract: A bed frame of adjustable width includes a pair of side rails and a pair of end rails extending transversely between the side rails, with each end rail having a pair of elements, and one of the elements being provided with a series of teeth. An L-shaped pawl is mounted to one of the elements, has one leg for engaging the teeth, and a second leg engageable by a user. A thin, flat, leaf spring has one end secured to the pawl and an opposite end for engagement with the end rail.A bracket is provided for limiting transverse movement of the box spring relative to the side rails. The bracket is secured only to a vertical leg of the side rail so that the fastener which secures the bracket to the side rail extends no higher than the top surface of the side rail or the top surface of the portion of the bracket overlying the side rail.

  • Patent number: 4007502
Abstract: Caster wheel supports for a bed frame comprising a pair of interlocking components in which male and female elements are provided on the cross and side frame members respectively for detachably securing them to one another, these elements being inclined and sloping upwardly and outwardly toward the sides of the frame, the male members serving to dispose the caster wheels mounted thereon inwardly of the side frames to provide foot clearance to prevent a person walking alongside the bed from stubbing his toes. The novel construction also provides improved reinforcement for the corners of the bed and also disposes the side frame and cross-frame bed support surfaces at a common level.
