  • Publication number: 20130286959
Abstract: A method and apparatus may be configured to support coordinated orthogonal block-based resource allocation (COBRA) operations. An access point (AP) may be configured to indicate to a plurality of stations (STA)s that it may support COBRA. Each WTRU may be configured to indicate to the AP that it can support COBRA as well. The AP may be configured to transmit a COBRA controller information element (IE) comprising a plurality of fields to each of the WTRUs. Each WTRU may be configured to transmit a COBRA controllee IE comprising a plurality of fields. STA grouping management, group maintenance, channel access, beamforming, sounding and frequency and synchronization procedures are also described.

  • Patent number: 8005055
Abstract: An improved method of network management, particularly in the context of standards IEEE802.11 and IEEE802.11k, through two new MAC measurements, with attendant advantages. The two new measurements include WTRU uplink traffic loading measurement, and an AP service loading measurement and is generally applicable at least to layers 1 and 2 as applied to a least 802.11k in the context of OFDM and CDMA 2000 systems, but is applicable to other scenarios as well. A Method for determining and advertising congestion is also provided for a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) system. The present invention also introduces a method for managing congestion when congestion is detected. This aspect of the present invention applies primarily to wireless systems that use the Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) mechanism. The methods are advantageously implemented in selectively configured WTRUs of various forms.

  • Patent number: 7336957
Abstract: A simulation is used to determine the effect of additional users on a communications system, such as a slotted wireless communications system. Users are sequentially added and determinations are made as to whether criteria for the additional user fall within predetermined limits. If the criteria are met, the user is accepted by the simulation and a power balancing is performed for all users. The simulation is repeated for each additional user. If the parameters are not within predetermined limits, the user is dropped. The simulation presents the system in a series of “snapshots” of communications activity.

  • Patent number: 7133366
Abstract: A model for a wireless code division multiple access communication system is generated. A plurality of first snapshots is provided. Each first snapshot has a plurality of user equipments (UEs) and base stations. Locations of the UEs in each first snapshot vary between the first snapshots. For each first snapshot, that first snapshot is divided into an uplink and downlink snapshot. For the uplink snapshot, uplink resources are assigned to each UE and an uplink transmission power level is determined of that UE. Dropped and not admitted UEs are determined in the uplink snapshot. For the downlink snapshot, downlink resources are assigned to each UE. Dropped and not admitted UEs are determined in the downlink snapshot based on the assigned downlink resources. Statistics are gathered on a performance of the system using the determined dropped and not admitted UEs.

The locations of the UEs in a snapshot vary between the snapshots. For each snapshot, the UEs are assigned to base stations. Resources are sequentially assigned to each UE or groups of UEs and a transmission power level for each UE is determined. For each sequential assignment, an updated transmission power level for any previously assigned UEs is determined. Dropped, served and not admitted (blocked) UEs in the snapshot are determined. Statistics on the performance of the system are gathered using the determined dropped, served and blocked UEs.
