Patent number: 6594530Abstract: The present invention is a block oriented control system that allows interoperability between devices made by different manufacturers. A block oriented control system is a system which includes a plurality of field devices incorporating a physical layer, communication stack, and user layer, with the field devices being connected by a transmission medium, such as a bus. The physical layer receives signals from the bus and translates the signals into a message for the communications stack, and receives messages from the communications stack and translates the messages into signals for the bus. The communication stack controls the communications between devices operating in the control system. The user layer is a block oriented approach to the system's control functions, and includes function blocks and system management. The function blocks are standardized encapsulations of control functions, such as analog input or proportional/derivative.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2002Date of Patent: July 15, 2003Assignee: Fieldbus FoundationInventors: David A. Patent number: 6274093Abstract: A hydrogen generating apparatus that includes a reactant with a vapor phase at greater than atmospheric pressure. The apparatus includes a tank for housing the reactant, such as ammonia. Ammonia communicates with a reactor having a solid reactant, such as lithium aluminum tetrahydride. A check valve is located between the tank and the reactor and is used to control the flow of ammonia to the reactor. Heat generated by the reaction is useful in raising the temperature of the reactant in the tank. The reactor can also include a gas flow enhancing material that facilitates gas flow through the reactor. A filter and getters are employed downstream of the reactor to remove unwanted solids and impurities from the hydrogen gas stream.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1998Date of Patent: August 14, 2001Assignee: Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp.Inventors: Eugene Long, Jeffrey A. Schmidt, Frank Lynch

Patent number: 5962246Abstract: The invention provides the DNA and amino acid sequence of dUTPase, an enzyme which is essential for life and which is increased during periods of cellular proliferation. The human form of the dUTPase enzyme has been found to have two isoforms, a nuclear and a mitochondrial isoform. Methods of determining the proliferation status of a cell, efficacy of antineoplastic compounds, and response to therapy with antineoplastic compounds, using cellular levels of dUTPase is disclosed. A kit containing the necessary reagents for the determination of dUTPase is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1997Date of Patent: October 5, 1999Assignee: The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New JerseyInventors: Robert D. Ladner, Frank Lynch, Salvatore J. Caradonna

Patent number: 4567466Abstract: A sensor communication system uses a shared analog signal to duty cycle converter for producing a comparison between a predetermined free-running triangular waveshape and a selected output signal from a plurality of analog signal sources such as process sensors, to convert the amplitude of the analog signal to a variable duty cycle signal. The variable duty cycle signal is subsequently converted to a digital signal which may be represented by a count stored in a counter counting clock pulses during the occurrence of the pulse width waveshape of the variable duty cycle signal. The digital signal is utilized as a digital word by a microprocessor operating in accordance with a stored program to produce a characterized digital output signal for use in a communication after conversion to a 4-20 ma control signal for communication and control in an industrial process control system.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1982Date of Patent: January 28, 1986Assignee: Honeywell Inc.Inventors: Theodore B. Patent number: 3984669Abstract: A fully digital spectrum analyzer accepting as an input either an analog signal or a series of digital numbers and using time compression and DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) techniques to provide the spectral component values of the input signal. Novel techniques and means are used in obtaining the power values for selected spectral lines and in averaging these power values. Statistically controlled noise is added to the input of the spectrum analyzer to enhance its resolution beyond the resolution which would be otherwise available. Advanced and efficient techniques are used for generating and applying trigonometric functions in the course of finding the real and imaginary part of Fourier transforms, and for providing running averages of the power spectra.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1974Date of Patent: October 5, 1976Assignee: Weston Instruments, Inc.Inventors: Joseph L.
