  • Patent number: 4413541
Abstract: A compound printer having print stations, die cutting stations and other operations, such as perforating and punching, has structure for rapid changeover of the individual stations. Movable carriages on carriage bars and indexing mounts allow rapid removal and installation of the elements, such as the print station or the die. Changeover time is substantially reduced. Removed components may be stored on the carriages.

  • Patent number: 4346855
Abstract: A method and apparatus in the processing of a continuous web and specifically a method and apparatus for stripping a waste matrix from a web substrate such as in the production of labels. The matrix is separated from the substrate and skewed as it is separated such that one side edge of the matrix is stripped from the substrate upstream of its other side edge. The apparatus of the invention provides adjustability of the skewing angle for optimum conditions.

  • Patent number: 4277058
Abstract: An apparatus and method for folding one or more continuous single or multiple ply webs wherein the webs are guided generally downwardly by an oscillating arm that oscillates fore and aft about a horizontal transverse axis relative to the direction the web travels, and directed by the oscillating arm alternately between opposed folding assemblies. The folding assemblies have a plurality of gripper means which travel continuously about a preselected path and receive the web at locations where the folds are to occur, then grip and thus fold the web, and thereafter release the web allowing it to exit downwardly in a folded configuration. The apparatus and method possess high speed capabilities in providing a parallelogram linkage for driving the oscillating arm and by timing the gripper means of the folding assemblies to close more rapidly and grip the web fed thereto by the oscillating arm.

  • Patent number: 4138944
Abstract: A printing press for use in printing a continuous paper web having a fountain section and a plate section each pivotally mounted to a main frame. The fountain section includes a removable ink fountain and rotatably mounted fountain and transfer rolls, and the plate section includes a rotatably mounted plate cylinder. An impression cylinder is rotatably mounted in the main frame. The fountain section is pivotal for selective engagement and separation of the transfer roll with the plate cylinder, and the plate section is pivotal for selective engagement and separation of the plate cylinder with the transfer roll and the web supporting impression cylinder. The pivotal sections are actuated by hydro-pneumatic cylinders and are adjusted against mechanical stops which maintain the adjustment of the contacts between the respective cylinders and rolls. The fountain section also has adjustment and mechanical stop devices for selectively engaging and separating the fountain roll with the transfer roll.

  • Patent number: 4085674
Abstract: In an apparatus such as a printing press or collator for performing operations such as printing, perforating, punching, die cutting, and the like on a continuous paper web, a registration unit for changing the phase of a first shaft relative to a second shaft where said shafts are rotatably mounted between parallel frame members of the apparatus, the registration unit having a sleeve rotatably mounted about the second shaft with a concentric output gear mounted thereto and rotatable therewith. An output drive gear is mounted to the sleeve and concentric with the output gear for rotation therewith, said output gear providing the output drive for rotatably driving said first shaft.

  • Patent number: 4078490
Abstract: In an apparatus such as a printing press or collator for performing operations such as printing, perforating, punching, die cutting, crimping and the like on a continuous paper web, a registration unit for particular use in a crimping and tractor station and for changing the phase index of a shaft relative to the web where said shaft is rotatably mounted between parallel frame members of said crimping and tractor station or unit, the registration unit having a sleeve rotatably mounted about the shaft with a sleeve gear drive mounted thereto and rotatable therewith. A second gear drive member is mounted to the sleeve and concentric with the sleeve gear drive for rotation therewith, said sleeve gear drive providing a drive means for rotatably driving said shaft.
