  • Publication number: 20050094100
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for improving aberration determination capabilities, providing corrective prescription verification, and allowing binocular vision correction in ophthalmic wavefront measuring devices. (1) Improved aberration determination capabilities are achieved through input beam modification which includes sensing an image in a wavefront emanating from an eye in response to an input beam with a sensor and then modifying the input beam with an adaptive optical device based on the sensed information. (2) Corrective prescription verification includes modifying an image with an adaptive optical element to produce a corrected image at the patients eye. (3) Binocular vision correction for a pair of eyes includes measuring the aberrations of one eye with a first ophthalmic wavefront measuring device and measuring the aberration produced by the other eye with a second ophthalmic wavefront measuring device substantially simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 6874244
Abstract: An elevator car position measuring system includes a strip having a code mark pattern mounted near the elevator car and parallel to a travel direction, a code reading device mounted on the elevator car for contactless scanning of the code mark pattern and an evaluating unit connected to the code reading device for evaluating the scanned code mark pattern. A code word is formed by “n” successive code marks of the code mark pattern, a plurality of different ones of the code words are unambiguously arranged in an n-digit pseudo random sequence, the code words form a single-track of the code mark pattern and each of the code words represents an absolute car position. A floor sensor mounted on the elevator car detects position markings at floor levels along the travel direction and is connected to the evaluating units for evaluating the detected position markings against said scanned code words.

  • Publication number: 20040169356
Abstract: A motor vehicle includes a body structure that has a lateral structure, a vehicle seat that is mounted on the body structure, and a side impact protection device for a passenger in the vehicle. The side impact protection device includes a head airbag with a first inflation device that can deploy upward in the region of the breastwork of the lateral structure, and a side airbag with a second inflation device that can deploy laterally out of the seat. In order for the side impact protection device to be used for different body structures, the side airbag is designed as a thorax airbag, which, in its ready state, is positioned, together with the second inflation device, inside the seat back of the vehicle seat, and can deploy essentially toward the front out of the side wall of the seat back. When the thorax airbag is in its deployed state, its upper edge comes to rest next to the breastwork of the lateral structure.

  • Publication number: 20040164528
Abstract: A safety system intended for an occupant of a motor vehicle is in the form of a protective bag which can be filled with gas. In a moved-in condition, the bag is folded together in a packet and, in an inflated condition, the bag extends along an interior side of a side window in order to protect a head region of an adjacent sitting occupant against an impact. To improve functioning of the safety device and reduce a space requirement, the packet is fully immersed in a door body of the door, and the protective bag unfolds during inflation from the door body, in a direction of a roof, essentially along the door window.
