  • Patent number: 4712789
Abstract: A cycle exerciser having a wheel rotatably mounted on a frame and arranged to absorb energy applied to the wheel through a pair of foot pedals and/or a pair of handlebar levers. A pedal-driven main drive shaft is connected to a countershaft through a first speed-increasing chain and sprocket mechanism, and the countershaft is connected through a second speed-increasing chain and sprocket mechanism to the energy-absorbing wheel. The main drive shaft is connected through a one-to-one chain and sprocket mechanism to another countershaft enabling the main drive shaft and the other countershaft to rotate at the same speed. The handlebar levers are connected to a pair of drive crank arms which are secured to opposite end portions of the other countershaft.

  • Patent number: 4509767
Abstract: A chain hangar for a bicycle seat stay tube comprising an elongated body having a driving head and a drill bit at opposite end portions, an intermediate portion with self-tapping external screw threads sized to engage a bore made by the drill bit, and a stop shoulder immediately behind the screw threads to engage the wall of the seat stay tube.

  • Patent number: 4291872
Abstract: Bicycle-type ergometric exerciser having pedal-actuated wheel, adjustable caliper brakes engaging the wheel and mounted on a pivoted frame for movement by the wheel according to work input by operator in pedaling wheel, a gauge indicating work rate input, and hydraulic transducer transmitting movement of pivoted frame to the gauge.

  • Patent number: 4103922
Abstract: Open-ended slots in lower ends of bicycle front fork legs receive front wheel axle in usual manner, but to prevent accidental separation of wheel from fork even if regular retaining means on axle became loose, safety means are provided comprising a pair of longitudinally flexible clips mounted at lower ends on axle with retainer means formed integrally therewith at upper ends, and receiver means adjacent lower end of each front fork leg for cooperatively receiving such retainer means, manual flexing of clips being required to effect disengagement of wheel axle from fork.

  • Patent number: 3961811
Abstract: A simple, inexpensive and easily installed bracket securely mounts a bicycle light reflector to the frame of a bicycle. The bracket, particularly suitable for use with a bicycle having caliper brakes, comprises: a slotted mounting portion adapted to be inserted between a cross member for joining bicycle frame portions and a brake arm bridge of a caliper brake mounted to the cross member by means of a center bolt, an upper forked end portion formed integrally with the mounting portion and substantially normal thereto in a forward direction and adapted to overlie the cross member, a lower arcuate cross-section portion formed integrally with the mounting portion and substantially normal thereto and being adapted to extend rearwardly beneath the caliper brake bridge, and an end portion integrally formed with the lower portion remote from the forked end portion and having means for mounting the reflector in substantially vertical position.

  • Patent number: 3947070
Abstract: A bicycle wheel assembly having a safety reflector stably supported between three adjacent spokes parallel to the plane of rotation of the wheel. The reflector has a flat body with retroreflective surfaces on opposite side portions and may, as in the embodiment illustrated, have margins curved to fit the contour of the wheel rim. One of the side portions has a spoke-receiving groove for receiving and fastening to the middle one of the three adjacent spokes. The reflector is positioned in a V-shaped cage defined by the spokes and rim in such a way that the grooved surface of the reflector abuts against a selected spoke. Further, the groove is diagonal in two directions to match the standard, non-radial inclination of the spoke. In the embodiment which is illustrated in the drawings for standard 27 inch wheels, the groove is inclined 7.degree. from the plane of rotation and 5.degree. from a radial line in that plane of rotation and the outer margin is curved along a 121/4 inch radius arc.
