  • Patent number: 4318960
Abstract: This invention is addressed to an improved size composition for use in the treatment of glass fibers in the manufacture of glass fiber textiles, glass fiber reinforced plastics, and glass fiber reinforced elastomeric products wherein the size is formulated to contain, as the essential ingredients, a polybutadiene graft copolymer and a glass fiber anchoring agent. Bundles of glass fibers sized with the composition of the invention are particularly well suited for impregnation with an elastomer compatible material containing a resorcinol-aldehyde resin component and an elastomer component for use in the manufacture of glass fiber reinforced elastomeric products.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 22, 1979
Date of Patent: March 9, 1982
    Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation
Inventors: Frank P. McCombs, Michael G. Roberts
  • Patent number: 4210562
Abstract: A hardenable binder composition is disclosed. The composition comprises a phenolic resin, hydroxyethylcellulose and a silane. The hydroxyethylcellulose being added in an amount sufficient to increase the wet tensile strength of the binder composition after cure thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 8, 1979
Date of Patent: July 1, 1980
    Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation
    Inventor: Frank P. McCombs
  • Patent number: 4097568
Abstract: We have found that if we add a polyhydric phenolic compound such as resorcinol to monohydric phenolic resin/cement systems, we can shorten the gel time sufficiently to use the systems in producing walls. The walls generally are cylindrical and serve to confine a liquid. These systems are especially good for producing large diameter, continuous pipe.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 30, 1976
Date of Patent: June 27, 1978
    Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation
Inventors: Kevin M. Foley, Harold A. Dewhurst, Frank P. McCombs
  • Patent number: 4036806
Abstract: We have developed molding compounds from cement in combination with a nylon or polyester resin. We form the resin in the presence of the cement. We can use these molding compounds to form molded articles which have good fire resistance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 8, 1975
Date of Patent: July 19, 1977
    Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation
Inventors: Kevin M. Foley, Reuben H. Bell, Frank P. McCombs
  • Patent number: 4017657
Abstract: We have developed a polyvinyl chloride foam with a smooth surface and uniform cell size. The foams also are resilient and abrasion resistant, making them especially suited for use in carpeting materials. To do this, we add along chain silane or epoxide to the foam.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 20, 1975
Date of Patent: April 12, 1977
    Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation

  • Patent number: 3971750
Abstract: We have developed new and useful epoxy resins which have excellent fire resistance. We prepare these resins by using phosphorus trihalides or phosphorus oxyhalides to cure conventional epoxy resins.
