  • Patent number: 5779193
Abstract: Acoustic and thermal insulation for an enclosed space, particularly the passenger cabin of an aircraft, comprises insulating elements lining the interior wall. Each element is enclosed in a bag of thin flexible moisture impervious material and each bag is provided with an aperture at a lowermost point at which moisture condensed from humid air within the air will pool under gravity. A duct connects each element interior to the exterior of the enclosed space, so that air pressure in the bag can be equalised with that in the space without using air from the enclosed space. Any condensate in the bag can flow to the exterior, and only air from the exterior can enter the bag interior. The elements are formed in appropriate shapes, such as rectangular to fit in the cells formed between the frames and stringers of an aircraft fuselage, or so as to be wrapped around the frames.

  • Patent number: 5314628
Abstract: The likelihood of proliferation of micro-organisms in a downstream conduit connecting the outlet of a chlorine filter to a de-chlorinated water outlet in a water supply system when no water is flowing in the conduit is reduced by providing a by-pass conduit between the upstream conduit and the downstream conduit. The flow of chlorinated water through the by-pass conduit is prevented when water is flowing from the chlorinated water inlet through the upstream conduit, the filter and the downstream conduit to the de-chlorinated water outlet.

  • Patent number: 4668007
Abstract: A screen or cover is provided for use on vehicles to cover the side of a trailer and the like to protect the contents such as automobiles. The screen also enhances the aerodynamic efficiency of the vehicle and includes a panel having peripheral tubes extending between the selected locations on the periphery of the panel and coupled to the panel. The periphery of the panel between adjacent pairs of the selected locations is cut back from the intended final position of the periphery and at least one cable is threaded through the peripheral tubes. Button means are provided for attachment to the side of the trailer at positions to receive and support the cable where the cable is exposed at the selected locations, and means adapted to tension the cable is provided. This last means is used to draw the cable tight over the buttons so that the panel is tensioned as the cable is pulled straight against the resistance of the panel where it is cut back between the buttons.
